If you’re looking for this week’s Amateur Art Appreciation, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait another week — Lisa Fortuner is attending Wizard World Chicago this weekend.
Watch for a new column next week.
–I wanted to throw out a big Blog@Newsarama welcome to Stacie Ponder, who is working with Kevin Melrose on a new webcomic that begins this weekend on this very site. If you aren’t familiar with Stacie’s “Stick-o-vision” work, check it out on her blog. Welcome, Stacie!
–In case you haven’t checked out Newsarama’s new Comics@Newsarama feature, which brings you pages of Powers on a daily basis, here’s another reason to check it out: the Comics@Newsarama logo was designed by our web and graphic guru, Stephanie Chan. Nice work, Steph!
–And speaking of Newsarama, Graeme McMillan shared his experiences at the San Diego Comic-Con last Friday in an article over on the mothership. Go check it out.
–And finally, we say goodbye today to one of our contributors, Shane Bailey. If you read Meanwhile … earlier today, then you know he’s heading off into the sunset. It’s not going to be the same around here without him; I’ve enjoyed not only his weekly tour of the blogosphere, but his input and assistance in other areas as well. Take care and best of luck, Shane!
The comic blogosphere seems to grow larger every day and just like comics, sometimes it’s pretty easy to get a little lost. “Meanwhile…” will act as your map pointing out what interesting discussions are happening out there while you’re reading Blog@Newsarama.
This is my last Meanwhile column here at Blog@Newsarama.
I’ve enjoyed the time with everyone on the team, all of you reading the column week after week, and all the bloggers out there, but the real world calls and I don’t want Meanwhile to suffer because of it. Don’t worry. Meanwhile won’t be ending. There will always be someone here telling you what’s what and who’s who in the blogosphere. JK and the rest of the crew here at B@N have some surprises in store for you over the next couple of weeks with some guests taking over for a while before the new Meanwhile columnist is announced.
Anyway, for this last column I’ve decided to list some of my favorite blogs/sites and why I enjoy them so much. Do you think the new columnist might be in my list? I guess we’ll have to keep reading to find out.
As Kevin mentioned earlier today, we had some issues with our server move last night that resulted in several posts disappearing. We’ve managed to recover the posts, and thanks to the funky voodoo powers of our resident web guru Stephanie, we may be able to reanimate some, if not all, of our comments as well.
The RSS feed seems to be working (let us know if you’re having any issues with it), and we’ll work on getting the LiveJournal feed up again as well.
I guess the silver lining in all of this is that the last couple of days have been pretty slow newswise … I keep telling myself, “At least it didn’t happen next week during San Diego.” Speaking of which, if you have any San Diego news, events, etc. that you’d like us to share with the rest of the world, please email them to me, and we’ll share with our readership.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks for reading!
Some of you may have experienced problems accessing the blog yesterday. Or perhaps you noticed that, oh, 10 or so items from yesterday are now gone. We switched servers last night, which apparently sent those posts into the Phantom Zone. Let’s hope it’s only temporary.
The results are in for our “Who the F@#$ is Johnny Repeat?” contest. Thanks to everyone who entered, and special thanks to the folks at Citizen Press for being so generous and offering up copies of Johnny Repeat for us to give away.
The contest was a simple matching game … Johnny Repeat is written by Jason James and features chapters drawn by several different artists. We took panels from different chapters, and all you had to do was match the artist to the right panel.

Today is the last day to enter our “Who the F@#$ is Johnny Repeat?” contest. Go check out the original post for complete details on how you could win a signed copy of the book; we’ll be drawing names for at least three of them, if not more, so you definitely have a chance, provided you enter now!

It isn’t too late to enter our “Who the F@#$ is Johnny Repeat?” contest. Go check out the original post for complete details on how you could win a signed copy of the book. The deadline is July 5.
No doubt you saw the interview we did yesterday with Elizabeth and Jason James on their upcoming graphic novel Johnny Repeat. The couple provided us with several copies of the graphic novel, which we’re giving away in our very first contest — our Who the F#$% is Johnny Repeat? contest.
Before I get into our look back at last week, I wanted to note some exicting news about this coming week … namely, we have a new contributor joining our merry band. I’d like to welcome Lisa Fortuner, from the blogs Written World and When Fangirls Attack!. Lisa has agreed to contribute a weekly feature to Blog@Newsarama, so watch for the first one this coming Friday.
We started the week with Bryan Singer’s final word on Superman’s sexuality, which had been receiving a lot of media attention and discussion over the past few weeks. No, he isn’t gay. But is he Jesus?
The week’s biggest story, though, was the end of Civil War #2. If you’re the only person in the world who hasn’t read the issue or didn’t have the end spoiled for you by Howard Stern or the New York Post or Yahoo, then I won’t spoil it for you here. Graeme McMillan talked about fan backlash, though, and Kevin talked about Marvel’s claims of sticking to their guns with the big change, which may contain a few spoilers. In fact, if you want to stay in the dark, you may not want to click on any links in the previous paragraph …
Kevin and Michael May took a look at this fall’s Dark Horse releases in our regular Forward Thinking feature; be on the lookout for Marvel and DC’s next week. Speaking of our regular features, our resident Grumpy Old Fan talked about how to make a Watchmen film, Shane looks for Marvel blogs and Michael tells us why he loves monsters.
We also spoke to a couple of comic creators this week, as Kevin interviewed Chickenhare creator Chris Grine and I spoke with Villains artist Ryan Cody.
Happy Father’s Day to new father Robert Kirkman! Also congrats to Marvel and the Young Avengers team for their recent GLAAD award.
It’s too late now to bid on the cover to Fables #50 by James Jean, but that’s probably ok … the original art went for more than $7,000. Too rich for my blood …
Next week should be a fun one here at B@N; not only does Lisa join us, but we also have a fun contest set to go on Tuesday … so be sure to check back with us all this week!
Entertainment Weekly has chosen Newsarama as one of their top 25 favorite online entertainment sites.
Newsarama is listed with sites such as YouTube.com, Defamer and Television Without Pity. EW writes: “This comics news site reports and reviews the latest releases, movie tie-ins, and industry happenings.”
EW also asked the editors of each site to choose their favorite three websites. Matt Brady, Newsarama’s big kahuna, chose Comics101, JKCinema and, in a move revealing Matt’s inner child, WDWMagic.com.
Our launch sponsor, MTV2′s Sic Emation, provided us with a preview from one of their upcoming shows, the returning Celebrity Deathmatch. The clip features claymation versions of Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie doing things to each other that the rest of us can only dream about. No spoiled divas riding the popularity wagon thanks to their last names were harmed in the making of this clip, and all that.
Check out the Sic Emation preview. (Will open a new window)
You’ll need Quicktime to check it out, and you might need to turn off your pop-up blocker depending on your browser/system’s mileage.

In their infinite wisdom (or maybe in a moment of insanity), the powers that be at Newsarama have recruited the cast and crew of The Great Curve to join their team and bring over our brand of blogging goodness! (Lock up the liquor cabinet!)
Created in 2004 by former Newsarama contributor Alex Segura Jr., The Great Curve blogs daily about the latest comic and pop culture news, reviews, features, opinions and anything else we think will be of interest to comic book fans. And while we have a new name and our new audience may be slightly different (and definitely much larger) than before, our goal remains the same — to bring you an engaging, thought-provoking and fun blog that you’ll want to come back to every day.
Joining me from the Curve are Chris Hunter, Michael May, Tom Bondurant, Kevin Melrose, Shane Bailey and Stephanie Chan. We’re also adding a new yet familiar face, Graeme McMillan, who you might remember from his own blog, Fanboy Rampage. You can learn more about them on our contributors page.
We have also started migrating some of our old content from The Great Curve, so you’ll be able to check out those archives on the new site very soon.
I’d like to say thanks to the Newsarama team and the folks at IWS, who host our server, for all their help in getting us up and running. I’d also like to thank our own web designer, Stephanie Chan, for making us look so awesome! And finally, thanks to our launch sponsor, MTV2’s Sic Emation animation block, which you can check out starting June 10 (click the ads for more info!).
We appreciate the chance Matt Brady and the Newsarama guys have given us to do what we love to do – talk about comics – in front of the Newsarama audience. Thanks for checking us out, and I hope you’ll like what we have to offer!
