Comics have one objective: tell an entertaining story and have good art that helps tell that tale.

Dickens killed off Little Nell – admittedly without disgusting details like blood spurting from her mouth. Why death and violence has to be portrayed in such loving detail these days is another question.

Kids die in books aimed at kids all the time, and I can tell you my imagination was always much worse than seeing some arrows and blood.

Comics have one responsibility, to tell an effective story. Baring that, if you’re looking for comics to teach you a moral or a life lesson you’re going to be deeply disappointed. This is not to say that you can’t do it, just that it shouldn’t be expected or required.
