Hate To Say I…

February 8th, 2013

With the news that Art Baltazar and Franco are working on a Green Team relaunch for DC, I’m not going to say that I told you so, but… Hell, I kind of did (Go to #7 on that list). I’m sure that some will see this as a sign of desperation, to be “reduced” to reviving such obscure characters now that we’ve had so many cancellations from the New 52, but I find myself oddly excited about the prospect of seeing more of the DC exploring far less obvious ideas and characters to send into the spotlight in the upcoming months. Plus, it’s Art and Franco! How bad can it be…?

I much prefer the general idea of “let’s do something different” to “let’s do another X-Men/Batman/Avengers book.” DC really has tried to hard to create diversity. Even if the execution has been inconsistent, even if there are a lot of problems with how DC does things aside from this. And even if, in the end, it’s probably a safer route to do more Batman and X-Men and Avengers books, judging by the cancellations we just saw.

Personally, though, I am a lot more excited by the new Gail Simone book. Her comments – she is the best reason I know to have a Tumblr account – make me think that she is going to be given a lot more room to tell her tale than DC’s been giving people not named Johns, Lemire or Snyder. Good to see that Baltazar and Franco are getting another shot.

I imagine Didio, Chase, and Harras huddled around a single screen reading this line and responding in unison: “Challenge Accepted!”

this had to have been in the works long before your paltry column was written… and some of your suggestions are so laughable. —like you and you columns
