Brand New, You’re Retro (Slight Reprise)

Something that didn’t really strike me until just now. Here’s the cover of Age of Ultron #6, from the most recent round of solicitations:

Is the fact that neither Storm nor Captain America are in their Marvel NOW! redesign looks significant, do you think? I mean, surely Brandon Peterson would have known about the redesigns – which, for Cap at least, have been around since July of last year – by the time he drew this…? Or, if not, then you’d think there would have been time to rework the art in order to make the costumes consistent…?

  1. Matthew Halteman Says:

The next issue of “Captain Marvel” has Captain America appearing in his traditional costume. So, no, I don’t think there’s any significance to this. Marvel is just being very lax about applying the new designs to all of its books. I don’t really care, as I find something to like about both designs.

  2. Kyle Garret Says:

And, in theory, Cap could just be wearing his old costume for some reason.

…and maybe Ultron’s evil plan is to make people grow hair faster?

  3. Brian Says:

Is that Cap’s old energy shield from the Heroes Return era? I thought it was a colouring thing first, but there aren’t any straps covering Cap’s wrist.

And when was Storm last in that costume? Was she ever in that costume? It’s not her pre Now costume, I know that much, so whatever it is, Peterson intentionally put her in it.

and if you see wolverine and the x-men, wolverine has a strange almost all yellow costume, and in Age of Ultron #5 Iron man have the new armor but spider-man apears not to be the superior one, maybe it is a alternative reality?

  5. Cisco Kid Says:

Hasn’t Age of Ultron been in the works for 2-3 years? That could explain some of the inconsistencies.
