How important are Nova and Guardians of The Galaxy to the next year of Marvel Comics…? Well, here’s what Axel Alonso has to say on the subject:
It’s a mistake to label this the “Cosmic line.” Nova, the Guardians of the Galaxy are as deeply woven into the fabric of the Marvel Universe as Spider-Man or the X-Men, and we’re going to remind readers of that in 2013. The Guardians won’t be fueling up their spacecraft on the planet Gronk when the $#!% hits the fan — they’ll be right in the thick of it.
Look, “Marvel Studios’ The Avengers” underscored the fact that the heroes fought for Earth in the context of a larger universe — hello, Thanos! — and we’ll be doing the same thing in 2013. The creative teams on “Nova” [Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness] and “Guardians of the Galaxy” [Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven] have put their heart and souls into telling exciting and accessible stories that exist in — and will be relevant to — the Marvel Universe and reflect deep affection for the characters and their history.
So, does that mean crossovers with Age of Ultron, or is there even more $#!% hitting the fan later in 2013…?

So . . . the editor of the books actively dismisses the actual historical premise of these books (at least, the Guardians, Nova was more earth-centric in its first run). Nice one.

Tim, I don’t see how you came to that conclusion…he’s not saying these aren’t space books, just that they aren’t off in their own universe and will be interacting with the rest of the universe. In fact, earlier in the interview Alonso mentions utilizing space and the negative zone (for example) in a broadening of the line.
Or, ya know, you could use your own predetermined conclusions and take things out of context to justify your impotent internet rage, whatever works!

I sort of liked that the cosmic books were in their own corner of Marvel. You didn’t have to know much about the rest of Marvel to like them.
But then, I also liked DnA, and they are long gone.
