Like Director’s Commentary, But More Relaxed

Something I am really appreciating about a handful of Marvel NOW! books is that their writers are offering commentary online about them as each issue comes out. I’m talking about Matt Fraction’s notes on Hawkeye and FF (Presumably, Fantastic Four will get one starting with the next issue…?) and Kieron Gillen’s just-launched notes on Iron Man:

Tony also reminds us why he’s going around taking everyone’s toys. I half wonder if I should have killed a few million people in the opening arc to remind everyone why it’s a big deal, but Marvel Earth probably has a population of about four hundred by now. I decided to trust people to understand that anything that can wipe the Earth’s population on a whim is a pretty risky thing to have out there.

It’s the format that’s so interesting to me; informal, not panel-by-panel per se, but pointing out interesting beats and moments that we should maybe pay more attention to while also sharing some of the background material that went into the book’s creation. I’d love to see a lot more of this.
