Tom Brevoort shares the various stages of cover for X-Men #69, from Marie Severin’s original sketch to the finished Sal Buscema art (The actual post has the finished, colored, art, not shown above).

Brevoort has previously shared other Severin cover sketches, and they all have this wonderfully expressive line and dynamic energy that doesn’t quite translate to the finished product no matter how good it ends up being. I have no idea if anyone saved all of Severin’s cover sketches – I tend to doubt it, but you can’t be sure – but if they did, I would happily pay money for a collection of the best.
