Such readers might not own the Marvel characters, but if their tastes have to be satisfied, they do have some control over them.

Are we still talking about this? Look as a non-white male living in America I can honestly say that I'm used to the idea of entertainment not perfectly reflecting my life. A character being white or non-white doesn't affect whether I buy that particular book or not. The story is why I pick the book up, not the race of the main character

I think this is going out of your way to criticize something, especially something that looks more of a problem at first glance than when you actually look deeper.

Lest we forget Uncanny X-Force, headed up by a black woman and an asian woman (and a short canadian). Or Young Avengers, headed up by a Latina woman and a gay couple. Or Fearless Defenders, featuring a black woman and a Native American woman. OR Astonishing X-Men, featuring not only an interracial gay marriage, but a first arc strongly revolving around a Vietnamese woman, whose cast features a hispanic woman. A black man is heading up the Secret Avengers relaunch. Avengers is diversifying its cast immensely, and Wolverine and the X-Men is one of the most diverse casts in comics. The diversity is there, people just might not want to look for it in order to throw stones.

Also, you scoff at Marvels solo non-white leads, which is 2, but my my count in the Feb solicitations, DC has 3 by my count (Batwing, Green Lantern, and Katana. I dont read any of the New52, so correct me if i'm wrong). That's only 1 more.

Marvel's dependence on readers who treat characters as fantasy objects, or form fetishes for them, has obvious implications for diversity. How many white guys fantasize about being black or female?

Such readers might not own the Marvel characters, but if their tastes have to be satisfied, they do have some control over them.
