Alex Maleev Draws BATMAN in March

Forget the addition of Andy Kubert to Batman #18, it’s the artist on the second strip that interests me:

Batman #18 will also feature a back-up story written by Snyder and James Tynion IV with art by the wonderful Alex Maleev.

Alex Maleev? On a DC book? Am I the only one surprised to see this? This is his first DC work in more than a decade (He previously did Batman art back in the days of “Cataclysm” and “No Man’s Land”) and, apparently, a sign that Marvel putting artists on The Dark Tower is a sure way of sending them over to DC. After all, look where Jae Lee is these days…

It doesn’t appear as though Marvel is using Maleev much these days, so this is not a surprise. I’m actually rather non-plussed about the idea; I find Maleev’s work too reliant upon photo ref. and rather boring.

Andy Kubert on Batman again? Now THERE is a story. He’s amazing.
