What I can' believe is who was left out. He took characters from Avengers Academy but somehow left out my favorites Finesse and Julie Power. He threw in Dark Hawk only because he likes him? Well, that's not exactly sticking to a theme now is it? But largely, I'm upset because they took great series like Avengers Academy and Wolverine and the X-Men and had to turn it into this? I'm seriously thinking Marvel hates teen hero books.

THANK YOU, Cliff. The Running Man, even Golding's Lord of the Flies predate Battle Royale, which I venture half the people citing never even heard us UNTIL Hunger Games came out so they could do the hipster "liked it before it was popular" routine.

I think they are pretty aware that people will be doing the Battle Royale and Hunger Games comparisons. But even those films aren't alone in this concept. There have been many, many stories surrounding these. Running Man comes to mind.
So, please, stop with the simplistic accusations.

I find the core concept a little disturbing. These are Marvel super-HEROES. Not teens that happen to be meta human. Heroes. Now, don't get me wrong... I'm a big fan of dark heroic fiction. I love both the Battle Royal and Hunger Games properties. And make no mistake, from the promotional artwork alone Avengers Arena is most definitely channeling Battle Royal and Lord of the Flies. So making these comparisons is fair. If I was writing it, it would probably last five pages tops with each "hero" sacrificing his or herself to avoid taking lives. Again, no matter how compromised and broken some of these characters are, they're still heroes. But this is a ongoing, so it's definitely not going down like that. With that said I'm still INTRIGUED. Just how are these impressionable kids are going to turn into cold blooded killers fighting for survival. We've seen this before, so all that remains is execution [no pun intended]. And if the premise is well executed and puts a new spin on this established genre, only time will tell. Let's see how this plays out...

Regardless of how cool or ridiculous a new comic or new direction may sound, I always give a book a fair shake to see how it plays out. I've often given terrible sounding ideas a few issues and found that I'm pleasantly surprised. I've also been sorely disappointed by books I thought were right up my alley. I'll give AA a chance to surprise me.

Still can't wrap my head around taking the upbeat heroes of AA and putting them in a death match. Then again, I also don't get why Marvel isn't using Gage as a headliner.
