Am I taking these funny books too seriously? I mean, am I?

I’ll be concerned when there truly exists a “superhero”. When we all can look up into the sky and exclaim: There’s goes the Gawd Damn Fascist and his faithful sidekick RightWing!

Though it is an interesting article in spite of my gentle ribbing.

Except for the fact that Graeber says things like, “Superheroes are not fascist…”

He’s expanding on the old cut-and-dried arguements of the past about superheroes fitting into a fascist role and gives room for a more complex interpretation.

The concept of super-hero as fascist, I think has some appeal to readers of a certain age group and possibly to some writers.
It seems present for example in Garth Ennis’ superhero work for example.

Historically, fascism was simply a nationalized form of Marxism. The name Nazi is derived from the words National Socialism for Pete’s sake. When they called themselves Socialists, you should probably believe them. It was “right wing” only when compared to international Marxism or Soviet-style Communism, which was the rival political movement in 1920s Germany.

The opposite of total govt control (communism) is not total govt control (fascism). The opposite of total control would be NO govt control (anarchy). That really should be common sense.
