And thinking about cost-benefit ratios:
The [Amazon.com] listing for the Uncanny Avengers – Volume 1: The Red Shadow hardcover however, is a revelation.
$24.99 for four issues. Issues that cost $3.99 each. In the hardcover, that works out as $6.25 each.
Even at the Amazon discount of 34% off (for now), that still works out as $4.12 each.
That’s from Bleeding Cool. $6.25 per issue? That’s amazing. And not in a good way. In that the HC hasn’t officially been solicited yet, and Amazon listings can always be updated, what’s the betting that we see a price reduction (or page increase) before the official solicit of the collection?
Maybe the “NOW!” in “Marvel NOW!” is there to suggest that fans buy the comics NOW! in individual issues because it’ll be prohibitively expensive to wait for the collection?

And people wonder why kids don’t buy comics anymore…..
(Yes, there are many reasons, but for the price of 4 comics you could buy many other things)

Page count is 120 pp, which usually gets a $25 price tag from Marvel. The price is based on page count rather than # of issues included.
The kicker? The 120 pp count probably includes reproduction of all the variant covers. 4 issues is only 80 pages of story. HC buyers are paying an extra $5 for the variants.
Total fleecing.

This has become the norm at Marvel. They obviously have no interest in a strong trade market, and instead want to push those customers into other ways of reading comics (singles and digital).
