This is actually really sweet – To celebrate Brian Michael Bendis’ eight-year run on the various Avengers books for Marvel, the publisher presented him with a plaque:
Bendis said in a recent Word Balloon interview that he estimates he’s written 272 Avengers stories during his tenure. That’s an amazing record, anyway you look at it.
No pressure, Jonathan Hickman.

Marvel may give plaques but DC pays creators when their work is used in other media. I bet I know which Len Wein prefers.

Oh! Aaron, I had no clue you had the inside scoop on the particulars of Bendis’ contract. What are the particulars of how he gets paid? Are you a higher up in HR at Marvel?

I don’t think Bendis has anything to worry about. He’s been a “creative consultant” for Marvel Studios for a while now, which translates into large amounts of money.

That’s a lot of panels of Spider-man stuttering.

I think it’s a stretch to say he’s written 272 stories. 272 issues, sure. But given that he’s the king of decompression, he’s probably only written around 50/60 stories.

As much as I have not liked much of what BMB has written on Earth 616, it’s still a bit of an accomplishment to stay in one place for so long. Though next to his run on Ultimate Spider-Man, it’s a short stay. Say what you will about him, but he’s in for the long haul. Expect his run on X-Men to go at least six years, I say.

Rewarding and acknowledging significant contributions by creators, eh? That’s nice, Marvel.
So what’s Jack Kirby getting?
Oh yeah, nothing.

The quote at the bottom is unintentionally perfect.

I’d be interested to see how his output compares to Roy Thomas’ tenure at Marvel
