First thought while looking at the newly-released All-New X-Men cover (above on the left, with the covers for All-New X-Men #1 and 2): “Oh, man. Cyclops lives through Avengers vs. X-Men? Well, maybe it’s a fake out and all of the characters on that cover are dead or something.”
Second thought: “Where’s Colossus?”
Poor Piotr Rasputin has had a hard time of it in the last few years; he got himself Juggernautized, he got himself Phoenix Five’d, and he’s struggled with both developments, finding out firsthand that absolute power really does tend to corrupt absolutely if you don’t fight against it constantly. And so, he’s been fighting – himself, the Avengers, his own sister… And I think about all of this, and I wonder: Is Colossus the characters who is going to die in AvX?
It would provide some sense of tragedy, of course, and a loss that wouldn’t necessarily feel “deserved” (If Cyclops dies, it could be said that he’d brought it on himself at this point, let’s be honest); it’d also provide an endpoint for a character who seems to have been at a loose end in recent years, and who has arguably outlived his usefulness just a few short years after being brought back from his first death. Plus, it leaves both Cyclops and Emma Frost around for future stories and, hopefully(?), redemption of sorts.
That he’s missing off a set of covers seems like a ridiculous reason to start thinking all of the above, I know, but still: He really should be on one of those three covers if he were still around, shouldn’t he…?

I had thought it was going to be Namor that died. He’s a big name, but can’t really carry his own series anymore. His team book is about to be cancelled. He was one of the Phoenix Five, so they’d have some punishment. Seemed to fit. I’m not sure how much he’ll be a part of the series now that he’s been de-phoenixed, but T’Challa could always come looking for revenge.
He’s also not in those images.

I agree with Bells. It would also open a big “Atlantis vs. the surface world” thing that Marvel hasn’t done in a while. I think it is more likely that Piort gets possessed by Cyterak, which could set up a nice long-term storyline in X-men.

Since he hasn’t been written in character since his resurrection maybe it would be better off for him to die again.

That looks like a family portrait, perhaps Petey is behind the easel- here’s hoping.

I take it nobody misses Professor X!

He’s been around so rarely the last few years, Jane … Charles could be back in Ibiza with Legion, clubbing.

Okay, Graeme, what’s with the Cyclops hating? Yes, the guy that has achieved world peace, fed the starving, ended all wars (and killed Mister Sinister in his spare time) totally deserves death. How on EARTH did he, “bring this on himself.” Someday we’ll get to see the X-Men part of this so called Avengers vs. X-men crossover. Because every “incident” through this whole series has been brought on by a group of Avengers that can’t handle that they’re top dog anymore. If anyone needs to go down and eat a HUGE slice of humble pie, it’s Cap and then Tony Stark…

The guy who achieved world peace, fed the starving, and ended all wars, as long as you follow his lead unquestioningly. Yeah, Cyclops is great. I think next issue he’s officially changing his last name to Von Doom.
August 27th, 2012 at 12:10 pm
Victor won’t like that.
August 27th, 2012 at 2:17 pm
Where did Cyclops ever try and hurt anyone? Where did he try to control anyone? Where did he ever try to take something from someone? NEVER. He is so far from Victor Von Doom. And all Superheroes have a “agree with me or I’ll punch your face attitude.” Why is Cyclops judged differently? He has offered the world a great living situation, and not even putting Mutants on top while doing it. He has called for Harmony not demanded that he be worshiped. His comparison to Dr. Doom is completely inaccurate and silly.

thanks for the highly possible spoil. Seriously, i did avoid the cover images but your ‘poor piotr’ headline gives it completely away. YOu guyys suck large.
August 27th, 2012 at 3:07 pm
perhaps you should go back and read issues 6.
first, cyclops demands the world not build weapons. Now, I’m not saying that’s a bad idea, but I’d like to know where cyclops has the right to make that demand. I’d also like to know what you think the consequence would be if someone disobeyed.
By the end of the issue Cyclops declares was on the Avengers for trying nothing more wrong than to rescue Hope who he was keeping prisoner on Utopia. He liked to claim she could leave anytime, until she decided she wanted to leave.
This all sounds quite Doom-ish to me.

What about Rouge, shes not seen. Her series is getting cancelled and there replacing her with Legion when Legacy comes back to number one.
August 27th, 2012 at 6:32 pm
ROGUE is in Uncanny Avengers you know . It’s one of the first chars we see on the cover .
And with her offworld in issues of legacy no longer AVX related , it would be stupid to kill her
August 28th, 2012 at 7:01 am
AvX and recent X stories have done to Cyclops what Civil War did to Iron Man. It will be hard not to see him as some sort of villain without a strong redemption story. Hopefully they won’t have to delete and restore his brain from a pre-villain backup copy to do it…
August 28th, 2012 at 7:13 am
Personally I think they should stop pussyfooting around and pull the trigger. That group on the left would make a great Brotherhood.
August 28th, 2012 at 8:05 am
He demanded that they stop making weapons and in return he gives them what most wars are fought for anyways: natural resources. And he does so without dismantling their governments, forcing them to pledge allegiance to him or make them say mutants are the kings and queens of the world now. He gave back so much. He asked for peace and in return he gave the world everything it wanted. And don’t get me started on Hope. If you side with that little piece of brat piss, you’re more delusional than Legion after happy hour. Cyclops saved her from the purifiers, sent his only son into the future for her to be protected, saved her from Bastion, gave her her own strike team all so she could figure herself out. And then she calls him a monster? She’s as bad as Dawn from Buffy…
August 28th, 2012 at 8:24 am
And yet what right does he have to demand anything from anyone? What right does anyone have to demand anything from anyone?
He didn’t offer resources in return for peace. He demanded peace.
And it’s not about sides with Hope. She’s a human being and so has the right to make her own choices. Regardless of what Cyclops has or hasn’t done for her in the past, she has the right to decide “this isn’t for me anymore.” As soon as cyclops takes that choice away from her she’s a prisoner and Cyclops is a dick.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:26 am
Ziggy, I would love to see you site where in the book prior to Cyclops showing up in AvX 10 where he is holding Hope prisoner. He has always told she could leave when ever she wants. But I, too, would be concerned if a group of people forcefully broke into my home, with the woman who decimated my people and then offered her to go with them. I would be a little concerned for her safety.
Cyclops, as shown in the AvX books, has provided clean water, abundant food and endless energy. Those are natural resources. He says no more war and in return we will provide with everything you need to live.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:42 am
Issue 6, page 35 in the digital version (page number probably different in print version). Hope says she wants to leave with Wanda (Wanda didn’t offer to take her, as you say) to which Cyclops replies “Absolutely not!” and tried to stop it, and only let her go after realizing Wanda could hurt him.
And you keep talking about how he traded resources for no more war, but again leave out the part where it wasn’t a choice.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:37 am
Whatever Ziggy, next you’ll be telling me it’s possible for Wolverine to be on every team and it’s not just Marvel trying to pry money out of people’s hands… This is Marvel’s way of making the Avengers look like the better heroes and try to pump more money into their new tent pole. That’s all this is. The story telling has been so anti-mutant biased it’s sickening. They are just setting up more ticket sales for all their new upcoming movie. I am sad to say it, but this isn’t an artistic endeavor; it’s been a business venture with no respect to the characters whatsoever. Shame on Marvel.

Haha. And there it is, boys and girls. The “I have no real argument” meltdown.
My work is done.
