This is depressing; Bleeding Cool notices that director Joe Carnahan appears to have tweeted the death of his Daredevil reboot:
Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.
He added, “Time is NOT on anyone’s side,” presumably a reference to the October deadline 20th Century Fox has to get a Daredevil movie in production before the rights revert to Marvel. Presuming the rights do revert to Marvel Studios, I wonder whether they’d hire Carnahan to provide his take for them, or whether it wouldn’t fit into the wider Marvel Master Plan…?

If Daredevil’s rights revert to Marvel, I suspect they would want a modern version they could add into the Avengers (he is in New Avengers now). Daredevil and Black Widow have significant romantic history, and Hawkeye and Black Widow have significant romantic history, so the potential for Avenger vs. Avenger hijinks is strong.

Graeme is by far the most easily depressed man alive, methinks.

I know that being depressed is a constant with you, but this is great news. Anytime one of the marvel licenses reverts it is great for the property. Now to wait for FF to come back from Fox/ Constantin.

If this goes back to Marvel, I would like to see a movie version of Matt in prison and Danny Rand as Daredevil, just to find a way to get them both on screen in one movie.

I am all for Marvel getting their characters back.
A lot of people are speculating why FOX is just not rushing out a crapper of a movie to keep the rights. I don’t think they will because A) the first one wasn’t all that great and B) another bad or mediocre movie will negatively impact any future movies (profit) about the character, rendering owning the rights to DD kind of pointless. Maybe FOX will let DD slip and concentrate on making sure they keep FF and the X-Men. I think the FF would be a lot more important to FOX than DD. But what do I know?
Something else to consider though too, even if Marvel ends up with the rights to DD again, I think it would be some time before even they could do something meaningful with him, given their film slate. I would hate to see DD ‘pigeon holed’ into a role, but obviously he could be set up in one of their many movies but I don’t think I want DD as an Avenger.
Maybe TV show to re-intro DD would be better? Have a ‘Law and Order’ style tv show with superheroics would be cool. Throw in the Heroes for Hire and that would be one awesome show.
