Yes, if Marvel’s own official release date for Amazing Fantasy #15 is to be believed – and why wouldn’t it be? – then today is the 50th anniversary of your friendly neighborhood wall-crawler, a fact that has apparently gone entirely uncelebrated – maybe even unnoticed – by Marvel itself, weirdly. Luckily, Tom Spurgeon is on the case, with a lot of great posts about Spidey, including some thoughts on the first 150 issues of Amazing, a great interview with David Brothers about all things Spider-Man, Kiel Phegley writing about Peter Parker’s transmedia adventures, and this jaw-droppingly wonderful conversation with John Romita Snr. about Spider-Man and many other things from 2002. Spurge, you’re to be saluted for this kind of thing (especially when the rest of us are too busy/distracted to even recognize the importance of the date); Marvel, meanwhile – What happened? (Particularly odd, the 50th anniversary issue is apparently two weeks away; at least it’s in the right month, mind you.)
Meanwhile, let’s think of Spidey the way he’d want us to:
