You will believe a man can fish in the Man of Steel trailer that’s been attached to The Dark Knight Rises in theaters. I have to admit, I really, really like this teaser; it’s far more subtle and beautifully shot than I would’ve expected from a Zack Snyder movie, and gives me hope that the finished version will be something more than Sucker Punch. But what do you think? Too slow? Too abstract? Or just enough to make you look forward to next summer…?

Rich Johnston notes that the voiceover is taken nearly verbatim from All-Star Superman. If Snyder is using that comic as source material and inspiration, Man of Steel might be a lot better that I was expecting.
Also, the sonic boom cone effect is amazing.

Tone reminds me of the teaser for Superman Returns, which had great buzz at first, but definitely nice seeing what looks like Clark’s journey. Both narrations sell the fatherly characters well, but Jor-El’s is a bit more iconic. Returns had great effects but a plot that didn’t do any character justice. If we get a good story and that same level of effects or better for Man of Steel, it should be great.

“Leaks” is not accurate, considering how MSNBC and Yahoo! each got their own different versions of the trailer with differing voice overs. More like “MAN OF STEEL Trailer Released Online.”

I like it – it’s VERY different from what you would expect, which makes it intriguing. I am hopeful that it is indicative of a whole new Superman movie.
I don’t see the connections to the tone of SUPERMAN RETURNS at all. That was completely influenced by the Donner movie; this seems very far from that.

Yeah- not quite a “leak”- it suggests you got something cooler then what has already been online for days. Could you edit your title so I don’t lose faith in newsarama, please?

(especially given that it was featured elsewhere on this same website -the front page still shows it- days ago….)

This does nothing as teaser. It feels and looks not like a superman trailer up till superman shows up on screen. Calling the teaser disappointing is putting it nicely.

I saw this on the screen before DARK KNIGHT RISES and was not very excited by it. The flying looked great, but everything leading up to it was kind of blah. And the voice over from Jor-El leads one to believe that this is going to be another “Superman as Messiah” takes on the story. Personally, I think Superman is too easily weighed down by symbolism and heavy emotional drama, and that goes for both movies, TV and comics. What’s wrong with a very powerful guy who clearly sees the difference between good and evil who uses his abilities to protect the little guy and right wrongs?

I missed the part in “all-star” where superman was a hobo.

Superfluous jab at a movie called “Sucker Punch”. I see what you did there…

Looks promising, but 1:34 is not enough to make solid opinion.

Too slow? Too abstract?
No…
Too AWESOME.

Ponderous.

so… no Titano in this one, I’m guessing.
Looks like smallville if directed by Terrence Malick.

As long as the cinematography is not dark as Returns, that will be a huge plus. I still don’t like the darkened colors of the super suit or the tiny little ‘s’ symbol.
I like the character and will see the film but I’m not expecting The Dark Knight Trilogy here, just a really good film that can serve to reestablish the movie series. One thing I’d like to see, if anything is cribbed from the Chris Nolan DK Trilogy, is the hope the film has a beginning, middle and end – in each of the chapters.
