As far as VST plugins are concerned, there are thousands of them, some of them free and some of
them available for a price. If you aren't well versed in their capabilities then you are not going to be able to use them to their maximum potential. Making sure the room is set up acoustically correct is important as well.

You screwed up plain and simple but had to have the last word that's all imo .

Back then DC Comics were still riding high from their Super Friends and Galactic Guardians cartoons, which both warranted toy lines. Kenner had released the Super Powers action figure line, which not only consisted of DC's most popular heroes and villains, but also a plethora of accessories, vehicles, and play sets.

Mattel, who were cashing-in big from the success of He-Man and The Masters of the Universe, sought to compete with Kenner, by licensing the A-listers from Marvel's hero/villain gallery. While Marvel didn't have a popular cartoon series at the time, Mattel recommended that a 'comic story' be published that would, in effect, be an advertisement for their action figure line. Thus, the 12-issue Secret Wars mini-series was born.

But keep pretending if you want that they scrambled because of Crisis . They saw an opportunity to get money by publishing a fun brawling serie ,and it worked .

" They said that MARVEL NOW! is an effort to combine the best artists and best writers on stories that will draw in new readers while not alienating old ones. Again, WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?"

Dear god , are you striving to be comicbook guy from the Simpson . It's PR , everyone at any publishing compny will tell you that their next event is better because they are pulling in their very best artists and writers . it's frickin' PR .

" my complaint is that Marvel doesn’t have to concoct some big event."

Yes they do , as everyone else does . Until they decide to publish finite stories with an ending in sight , or to keep things self contained within each books , it keeps things fresh and maintain the illusion or reality of an actually shared universe .

There is no reason you can't just enjoy both and event and separate stories , they are there . Hell they are even managing X-books that arent dealing with AvX .

I read books from both companies, have for years, and openly criticize both where warranted.

As for chronology, Crises was announced and in the works when Secret Bores, I mean Wars was pushed into production and laid out. DC did have problems with an unmanageable multiverse but used creativity to solve it. Marvel threw a story together quick; all heroes and villains appear on a planet, ok fight. Now go home and resume normal activities, except for the Thing who would stay there for a year but accomplish nothing (it did give She-Hulk a job with the FF).

To defend my original comment's first paragraph, it was a direct reference to the Newsarama video post of Marvel execs @ SDCC explaining what MARVEL NOW! is, or more correctly failing to do so. They said that MARVEL NOW! is an effort to combine the best artists and best writers on stories that will draw in new readers while not alienating old ones. Again, WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?

I will end this rant saying that there are things that I love about Marvel, so I guess my complaint is that Marvel doesn't have to concoct some big event. I love the new Incredible Hulk, Scarlet Spider and Winter Soldier series and I am reading AvX, it is a 50/50. Just put together good stories and don't worry about keeping up with the Joneses or DC.

"DC manages to appear more fan-friendly and reclaim some fandom buzz in a year that’s been particularly unkind to the company."

---they don't "appear" more fan-friendly---they ARE more fan friendly! i was really struck by the differences in Marvel's and DC's booths as well.

---and how on earth has the last year---July to July---been "unkind" to DC??? they launched the New 52! they top the marketshare chart 10 months later! what do they have to do to have a "kind" year, graeme? careful, your bias is showing...

Considering that Marvel Now doesn't kick off in full force until November, I think Marvel couldn't reveal too much more without losing reader interest. If they revealed everything now, up to 7 months in advance, then what's there for them to talk about for the rest of the year?

As it is we already know what's happening in October (Uncanny Avengers and A+X), and can take a fair guess that Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk and Fantastic Four will be relaunched in November, unless some of those titles skip a month. We also know that All New X-Men launches in November. We'll know the rest when the November solicits are released next month.

Yeah was pretty funny to see the first crossover from both companies being accused of being a copy . If anything DC was scrambling back and resetting a strugglind universe . Sounds familiar imo

Yikes, Chilcut, check your chronology there! Say whatcha will about Secret Wars (I happen to like it), but there's no getting around the fact that it preceded our beloved CRISIS! by a full year. If you want to blame something for Secret Wars, blame TOYS.

And Jim Shooter, I guess.

Also, your first paragraph doesn't make any sense.

I have a funny feeling that you'd be complaining if they showed up with it at SDCC almost empty handed , with the consequences of AvX not even there yet .

In fact i remember several blog entries and article going on and on about event fatigue and big announcement fatigue .

Basically whatever they do , Marvel wouldnt catch a break with you , outside of movies announcement

MARVEL NOW is what?
Oh, it is combining good writers and artists on important character books with stories that new and old fans can jump on-board with……….So, Marvel, what you are saying is that right now you place a mixture of mediocrity in your books with stories that have no rhyme or reason.

MARVEL NOW reality!
This is the Jim Shooter 1980′s all over again. Back then DC started a reboot, using a 12 issue Maxi-Series, Crisis on the Infinite Earths that was new, exciting and changed the status quo. Marvel/Jim Shooter panicked and had to throw something together quick and out came Secret Wars, one of the worst stories ever. It really changed nothing except a black costume for Spiderman and a sequel that exceeded the poor writing of the first.

DC did the New 52 and it is generally a success and has created buzz. Marvel is scrambling again so out pops MARVEL NOW!

Marvel, you have great characters with so much potential. You also have the two best movies of the summer. Don’t make everything a Special Event to compete with the other guys.

Strangely enough, this made me realize that I'm far more interested in what Marvel Studios does these days than I am in what Marvel Comics is doing.

The big surprise to me in all of the SDCC coverage is that there was zero mention in panels or Q&A's of Marvelman. Does this mean that the property is pretty much dead?

Tom Breevort wrote on his Formspring page, which Graeme regularly cites, that Marvel doesn't do too many big announcements at SDCC. It'd just be "white noise". And he's 100% right. Not only would they cannibalize their own headline space, but they're contending with every other pop culture hit in addition to other comic book companies for news. It's become so big that it doesn't provide the type of attention or volume that say, a week of posting teaser images would. Graeme loves those teaser images!

Marvel Studios-billion dollar industry; Marvel Comics-million dollar industry. Of course, they'll focus on the movies at a 'comic-con' because that's Marvel NOW! :/

I wonder if Marvel wanted to cut down on the amount of backlash Marvel NOW! will surely engender. If they had released a bunch of news about the relaunch at Comic-Con, that would have given fans three extra months of snarky nitpicking before the books actually come out.

I just want a schedule of what get released each month. If they're gonna spread it out over 5 months, I just want to know what I'll be getting early next year, and when to add what to my pull list.

If DC was looking to be more fan friendly, they probably wouldn't have announced that they lied about Stephanie Brown being in Smallville and that Tim Drake has now never been a Robin.

I wonder if it was just because they knew any comics news would be overshadowed by the movie news. This way everyone can freak out about the movies today, then allow Marvel comics to dominate the news cycle in the usually slow post-Summer months.

I was thinking the same thing. How can Marvel not talk about its "next" "new" thing as a company at the biggest comic book convention? Because they want to draw it out week by week and give teasers each week.....ugh even their marketing is decompressed.
