Hey... been there, done that. For me personally, the whole "good isn't good enough" phase really started kicking into high gear when I started looking at other mediums like films and old novels. Basically I looked at lists that people considered were the best of the best, and after looking at some of the entries on there I really started to get an idea of "hey, y'know something, I've been reading crap for the last ten years!" But, yeah I do think that growing maturity in taste plays a big role. But I have found something interesting. I found that if I enjoyed a comic as an adult as much as I did when I was a kid, then that comic must pack some kind of wallop.

I think when you get old enough, you realize that you can only get so much out of yet another Batman story. It's important to find those creators who make comics feel fresh. It may mean trying out the creator-owned stuff, or it may mean allowing an experimental madman like Grant Morrison to play with the publisher's toys. (I say "madman" with the proper amount of reverence.)

It's better than growing so attached to the characters that you won't stop reading even when you are unsatisfied. There are so many worthy books out there that there's no reason to be upset.

What you mean everyone doesn't do that already? I have a limited budget to buy comics with so if a series is not firing on all cylinders it gets dropped fast, that doesn't stop me from trying new things either. Basically the modern world has forced me to be harder on all my comics but in turn has lead to finding more stuff I really enjoy and generally enjoying comics more than ever before.
