Superman and Batman To Be ‘Joined’ in Feature Film

Superman and Batman will be in a movie together. But it’s not Justice League — at least, not yet.

As reported by Variety, the Lego minifigure versions of both characters will be part of the forthcoming live-action/animated hybrid film Lego: The Piece of Resistance, scheduled for Feb. 28, 2014. Thus far, the film has cast Up All Night/Arrested Development actor Will Arnett as Batman, and is looking to court Channing Tatum as Superman, who hasn’t yet committed — Tatum previously worked with Lego directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller on this year’s successful comedy 21 Jump Street. Robot Chicken’s Chris McKay will co-direct.

Parks and Recreation co-star Chris Pratt will voice the lead character Emmet, an “ordinary, law-abiding Lego mini-figure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary Masterbuilder. He’s drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.”

Lego and Warner Bros. have previously partnered on several projects featuring Lego versions of DC characters, including the Lego Batman video games, the second of which was released earlier this month. (Review here.)

Because everyone has been clamoring for this since never.

  2. WBandDCAreSoDesperate Says:

WTH is this? This is a joke right?? This should be a Cartoon Network special and not as a major studio released full length feature! What are Warner Bros and DC Entertainment thinking??

  3. Azmo Says:

I don’t understand… I guess they have realised they can’t compete with marvel in the big screen so they are doing this kind of things. Truth be told I would prefer an animation movie with pixar’s like design before this kind of nosense. The games are hilarious but a movie with crappy character design and a “funny” story? thanks but no thanks.

  4. Simon DelMonte Says:

Will Arnett as Batman…sure, he’s funny. But is he as good as Dietrich Bader?

  5. Darth Board Says:

Wow. Way to misdirect with a headline, Newsarama.

So it’s just a Lego movie and two of the minifigs in it HAPPEN to be Superman and Batman? And THAT’S the headline you went with?

    *SIGH*

  6. sniperboy Says:

This should go head to head against The Avengers II movie. But really you would think with the vast resources of Warner Brothers, they could at least produce a World’s Finest movie.

  7. tank Says:

My interest is definitely not “joined”. Way to fake me out with a misleading title, rama.

  8. demoncat Says:

nice though surprised warners okayed the thng given how they seem to always not like batman and superman teamed up in any live action way . but Chantum tatum as supes really did the producers not come up with any one else.

  9. Will Says:

@demoncat…I wouldn’t consider this “live action”…fans may not have realized this, but I’m convinced that a great Justice League movie is unobtainable…I’m not sure how they would explain their characters origins, have them forces, all the while being an interesting story…if they do ever make the movie, I’m pretty sure it will not be the DC A-list…I can’t see Batman in the movie for starters…

  10. RobG Says:

Is this serious or are you just pulling our Legos?

  11. jeffo Says:

Wow. What a completely misleading headline. This is a movie I will never see.

  12. jimbo Says:

I feel like rick astley should be playing…

  13. Russkafin Says:

This headline is misleading to the point of being mean.

  14. ned Says:

i want to laugh and cry at the same time. a lego film really? am i the only person feeling that it is dubious that someone was high enough to come up with this idea. even though the lego games are epic and hilarious and i love them. i don’t think the film will be amazing but if they do actually make it for some bizarre reason then i will go see it just because batman and supes are epic. and hey look on the bright side, the film won’t be able to be any worse than ‘batman and robin’

I KNOW THAT BRAINIAC IS THE ONE OF THE BAD GUY THAT THE FAN WANTED TO SEE. THE JOKER AND LEX LUTHOR HAVE BE OVERUSED. IT WOULD BE HARD TO TOP HEATH LEDGER JOB AS THE JOKER. GOOD LUCK TO THE FUTURE.
