For those who got upset at the announcement of Brent Anderson being the artist of the new Phantom Stranger series at DC because you’d rather he be drawing Astro City (You know who you are), Kurt Busiek himself has a message for you:
Brent’s working on PHANTOM STRANGER because the pills I’m taking don’t leave me focused enough to write. We have a big pile of ASTRO pages in the drawer, almost enough to get us back on the schedule monthly, but until I can produce scripts again, we’re in a holding pattern.
I’m glad Brent’s doing PS — I think it’s the kind of book he’s ideally suited for, and I’d hate for my illness to cost him an income. When I’m able to produce scripts again, though, I’ll fight Didio to the death for him!
So, now you know. Also, it should go without saying, but: Get well soon, Kurt. And not because I want to see a deathmatch between you and Didio.

Get well soon, Kurt indeed. This isn’t even a contest, either. I’m almost positive Kurt Busiek could outsell Didio’s Phantom Stranger on Astro City, which is published by DC.

Excited to see Anderson doing regular work while Busiek gets on the road to recovery. I’m really hopeful for this book since I really enjoyed Didio & Giffen’s OMAC comic. Looking forward to new Astro City too, but looking forward even more to good health for Kurt Busiek.

Didn’t know that Busiek was hurting; but, as he is truly one of my favorites to ever work in the medium, I sincerely wish him a speedy recovery and a relaxing convalescence.

I had no idea Mr. Busiek was so ill. Here’s hoping he gets better really soon!
