… as an actor. The Hollywood Reporter cites the ubiquitous “sources” saying the Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director has joined the cast of Iron Man 3, reprising his role as Happy Hogan, though it is unknown has large a role it will be this time around.
THR is spinning his casting as indication as an endorsement by Favreau of new director Shane Black.
The film began principle photography in Wilmington, North Carolina earlier this week, and at least according to one report has received a $60 million dollar budget boost (from $140m to $200m) in wake of The Avengers global box office success.
In other Avengers-verse movie news, Mads Mikkelsen, perhaps best known as Le Chiffre in the James Bond revival Casino Royale, has been cast in a villainous role next to Tom Hiddleston (Loki, of course) in Thor 2. Games of Thrones’s Alan Taylor directs that sequel, which will feature most of the cast from the first film.
Speaking of which, Anthony Hopkins (Odin) is looking to carve out time in his Thor 2 shooting schedule to join the cast of Red 2, the sequel to the Warren Ellis-written comic book inspired film starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich.
Hopkins would reportedly play a genius scientist who was locked up in an insane asylum, which wouldn’t be the first time the veteran actor has been fitted for a straightjacket for a big screen role.

What this particular THR news item left out is that Favreau’s also a producer on Iron Man 3, so I’m pretty sure he approves of everything that’s going on.

This article is in serious need of proofreading, from the first paragraph that doesn’t make sense (“though it is unknown has large a role it will be this time around”) to “principle” photography.
Anyway, thanks for the good news.

You know, the news about Favreau is great and all, but am I the only one who’s not happy to hear about Loki potentially being the villain again in Thor 2.
Thor, like several famous superheroes, has one villain that stands high above all his other villains (thor with loki, superman with lex, x-men with Magneto, etc.,etc.) But I think one of the worst things for a superhero franchise is to get set on a single villain and never use any of the other ones (the superman films are perfect example of this).
I REALLY hope that Loki has an extended cameo and they otherwise focus on enchantress(rumors) or whoever it is Le Chiffre is going to play.

@KaleRylan Loki was instrumental in creating most of the coolest villains Thor has, from Absorbing Man to the Wrecking Crew so it is very fitting just like Lex Luthor is in most Superman films, Loki should be there too, specially since this is just the second story. To me is not a great Thor story if Loki is not involved in some way.

Le Chiffre was a guy in the bond films, he was in Casino Royale as the financial guy who played against bond in the card game.. pretty sure enchantress is a chick.. Lol but otherwise glad to see Favreau returning to play Happy Hogan and not ditching the film all together because of a new director.
