Who is DC’s Sensational Newly Gay Character Find of 2012?

May 21st, 2012
Author Graeme McMillan

Place your bets, DC fans:

Surprisingly, [DC Co-Publisher Dan] DiDio stated that they had changed DC’s policy in this regard. And they are about to reintroduce a previously existing DC character who was previously straight and now will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.”

One of my favorite guesses on social media has been Donna Troy, but a truly part of me really hopes that it’s going to be a Watchmen character, just to see if the internet could get any more upset about Before Watchmen

  1. Robin Says:

    my guess: Mr. Terrific.

  2. Logan Says:

Wally West as Barry Allen’s gay friend who gets his powers. (I’m kidding really. It’d be a terrible story but given the way DC has treated Wally recently…)

  3. Kyle Garret Says:

I’ve been hoping Barry Allen comes out of the closet since the relaunch, but I doubt DC would be willing to have one of their Big 7 be gay.

  4. Sallyp Says:

    Geo-Force. Gotta be.

  5. Mo Walker Says:

My guess is Red Tornado :)

  6. Ron Says:

    @Mo Walker
Gay androids… I guess the whole nature versus nurture thing becomes a mote point there…

  7. Henchman4Hire Says:

It’s going to be Vibe. He was in that gatefold image from the Free Comic Book Day issue. And Geoff Johns has said how Vibe will be in an upcoming Justice League storyline coming out soon. Plus he’s Vibe.

  8. Dan Coyle Says:

Cosmic Boy. it’s got to be Cosmic Boy!

  9. Jay_Chevy24 Says:

it has to be cosmic boy it just has to be. So guys i have been looking for some new comic book arrivals(other than dc and marvel) and there is a new comic book company ascendant comics you should go check them out at ascendantcomics.com

  10. Mike Says:

    Hawk

  11. Super Mutant Says:

Why do DC just keep not carrying a damn about the fans. Seriously first new Hawkgirl and now this. It’s a vibe I don’t care was throw character from a bad era of jla. If it’s more important then I care.

  12. the living tribunal Says:

    Vaseline Guy! ;)

  13. Gray64 Says:

Well, they keep saying “prominent” in all their press releases, so…I’m really hoping it’s NOT Nightwing or any of the Robins, if only because that’s a really old joke and was in poor taste to boot. We know it’s a guy, because they already have a lesbian character (Batwoman), and they keep saying it’s a guy (so it’s not Wonder Woman or Donna Troy, folks, sorry)…my guess is it’s either Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), or the Flash. Or possibly Cyborg, given his new prominence.

  14. MJW Says:

    I say Alfred.

  15. Jenna Says:

Likely not Cyborg, as he can’t really act on it and would therefore be criticized.

Kyle Rayner GL does seem like a logical pick, but then it’s the typical “sensitive artist type” choice. I think Hawkman would be a good choice, in terms of going against “type” (not my personal thoughts…but c’mon, Bunker?). A good opportunity to add this facet to a character instead of defining him by it, as it seems to happen sometimes.

  16. Grandaiza Says:

It would be a cool spin if it was a villian.

Lex Luthor attacking Superman all these years was just a device to get his attention.

and don’t get me started on what the Joker might be up to.

  17. Mike Says:

It’ll be a disappointment but I think (as someone else mentioned) Mr Terrific. Semi high profile already a minority, no movie or other media stake seems edgy but in reality a nobody. Unless it’s one of the Original 7 it’s a cheap cop out by DC….

  18. Thomas Says:

I think they are being careless may be sending kids the wrong message. There is enough peer pressure going on. These days the youth does not need anything else to give them ideas. They may not understand yet. Beside are sale slumping maybe they put out one too many lousy stories. More action please and less damn drama.

  19. Yeah Says:

DC is just doing this for the controversy. New 52 is selling well, and with this news people will be flocking to find out who is gay. Keep those books selling.

  20. DCgusting Says:

Whatever title the character is in, I will drop it.

  21. Abir Nandi Says:

Please don’t let it be Dick, Tim, Wally or Kyle. Dandy has already treated Kyle & Wally fans like me with enough crap.

  22. Johnny Zen Says:

How can it not be Tim Drake?

He got over the death of his ‘girlfriend’ in the blink of an eye and spent a year trying to clone dead Superboy. And while he’s had girls thrown at him all the time he’s constantly showing no interest, rather wanting to play with Superboy or Impulse.

  23. Joshua Says:

its going to be one of the earth 2 guys or Shazam

  24. Jimmy Says:

Shazam’s a 10 year old boy, so I REALLY hope that was a joke.

My money’s on Atom, he’s only just edged out of Original 7 and Ryan Choi is just the right balance between mainstream and obscure

  25. Jettie Says:

just to see if the internet could get any more upset about Before Watchmen…
