Robert Downey Jr. plays billionaire Tony Stark (Iron Man’s not-at-all secret identity) in the Marvel Studios movies, and he’s looking to make some pretty good money himself as a result of the phenomenal box office success of Avengers.
The Hollywood Reporter cites “multiple knowledgeable sources” that RDJ is looking to take home $50 million from the picture, which includes back-end compensation and bonuses. After the success of the first Iron Man, Downey’s reps negotiated a deal where he would make a percentage of the profits from any Marvel movie where he plays the character — with The Hollywood Reporter says could be as high as 5 to 7 percent, though no concrete numbers are publicly known.
As far as the rest of the cast, THR’s sources say that Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will all make about $2 to $3 million from Avengers, with Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson making around twice that. Avengers currently sits at a worldwide total of $1,016,095,436, according to Box Office Mojo.

Well, good news for Downey Jr and the rest of the cast, they deserve it, it was a great movie.
RDJ takes the biggest part, but it’s not free, his Tony Stark characterization is terrific.
Peace

Nearly as rich as Tony Stark? I know the economy’s been bad and Tony is always losing his companies, but he’s still a lot richer than any mere actor. Besides, I bet Tony owns stock in Facebook already.

That’s a pleasant surprise, with Marvel’s history of lowballing its talent, current or prospective (Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Terrence Howard). On the other hand it’s a good thing they were able to keep the talent fees of the rest of the cast down to seven figures; this movie was expensive enough without bloated talent fees in the mix.

Good for him. His spectacular performance in Iron Man 1 is the entire reason these franchises took off. Had he been a weak or cheesy depiction of Tony, no way do we have Avengers today. Congrats to him and good move by his management.

As much as the others are vital to the mix, RDJr is the glue. Though I would imagine that the other actors will score substantial raises on “Marvel’s The Avengers II: Thanos Triumphant” (I wish…!) Or whatever it’s eventually called once the story is plotted out.
