Bryan Hitch Pencils New Variant for DC

Bryan Hitch makes another DC variant cover appearance with this cover for Action Comics #10:

Thought #1: So, America’s Got Talent is six issues, right? So we’ve got, what, until San Diego before DC announces a special Bryan Hitch-illustrated project, do you think?

Thought #2: Isn’t it kind of amazing how iconic the t-shirt and jeans look already is for Superman, less than a year after it debuted? How did that happen?

The t-shirt and jeans look feels way better than the anime-fanfiction costume they’ve been using. Yuck!

  2. Arturo Ulises Says:

    Because the alternative sucks.

  3. Mechagamera Says:

It makes me wonder if the JLA tail is wagging the DC universe body (again)–something along the lines of “Superman wouldn’t be cool enough to hang with the JLA in jeans and a t-shirt, so we have to have him in ugly space armor, because everyone in the JLA wears stylized armor.”

  4. Super Mutant Says:

The other costume isn’t but superman rediculas running around this way. Drawing nice but change how stupid superman looks.

  5. Aaron Poehler Says:

    “How did that happen?”

By having Superboy run around in a variant of it for years and setting the precedent, it didn’t seem at all jarring when introduced. That’s how.

  6. davesnothereman Says:

exactly my thought aaron. and superman looks like superboy on that cover.

  7. Kyle Garret Says:

I agree that Superboy set the precedent and that helped.

But I have to say that it’s the cape that makes it for me. It’s just so child like. It attaches a real sense of innocence to Superman.

  8. moose n squirrel Says:

I initially read “iconic” as “ironic,” and was seeing Hitch’s Supes going “Yeah, I picked up this tee at Salvo on half-off blue-tag day? It is SO pre-Crisis!”

  9. The AntiGraemitor Says:

because super ran around with it for years therefore setting a tone….

are you a complete idiot graeme or do you do this on purpose?

  10. BoozerX Says:

    That face is dumb.

  11. Captain Great Says:

Why the hell are you guys writing about this nonsense when you could be making EVEN MORE lists about the Avengers! There still more blood to be squeezed from that stone guys!!

  12. Deco Says:

I don’t like the t-shirt tucked in – it looks nerdy and anal (plus wouldn’t it come out when in action? or is extra-long?). Superboy’s t wasn’t tucked was it?

Hitch is generally really good. This cover isn’t.

  13. Joe S. Walker Says:

That’s Superman? Where’s Murphy Anderson when you need him?

  14. bryceharper Says:

shall we count down to Scott Lobdell writing this title in the future in due time? Alright. 1..

  15. Hutchimus Says:

How can that be Superman?! Where’s the frown lines and furrowed brow? He’s smiling?!

  16. Michael Says:

Hitch’s art has just looked terrible lately. Is he inking his own pencils or is he just rushing his work?
