Brett, I guess they meant Ward could be a reference to Burt Ward. Or it could be there because the football player is played by recently-retired Hines Ward. Or both.

I’m pretty sure they let the athletes who portray football players use their real names. The only other name on a jersey that I’ve noticed in the trailer is the opposing team’s kicker, Ravenstahl, played by Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, who is a former high school football player.

Brett, Ward is the name of the actual Pittsburgh Steeler football player in the movie. The Guy running with the Ball is Hines Ward. Nolan let some of the the Steelers take part in the film as the Gotham Rogues since they were filming in Pittsburgh.

I don’t think there will be a “Robin” in this film, but I do think Nolan using the “R” was a nice little easter egg for fans.

I think there will be a “Robin” of some description. In tghe first trailer (which was played before The Avengers) the football player has the name “Ward” printed on his shirt. Further, in the crowd scene there are a few folk holding black and yellow sings – one ofthese signs has the stylised “R” of Tim Drake’s costume.
Perhaps “Ward” has the nickname of “Robin” ?

I am not sure whether this Robin will don the iconic costume, but he may help Bruce in the same way Tim Drake did initially, that is as an out of costume “moral support”

It seems as though they definitely toned down the voice from a growling to an airy rasp at least from this trailer anyhow.

I don’t think that Blake is Robin Terry but someone who is one of the people who within the last 8 year was inspired by the Batman and if Batman does die in this movie he may be heir to the throne following in the footsteps of the idea that Batman is everlasting.

Gordon Levitt is playing Robin. I’m calling it.. for this trailer confirmed one thing: He’s not playing a villain.

His characters’ name… John Blake? Not a random name. He was a kid in a Batman comic and a coloring book:
