"What happened to maybe 3.39 or 3.49?"

Apple only allows for things to be sold with prices ending in '.99' in the iTunes store. So if digital comics sold through comiXology are going to have price partity with print comics, they have to be something that ends in '.99'.

This doesn't seem to bother Dark Horse, who are happy to sell a print comics for $3.50 and its digital equivalent for $2.99. But if Marvel or DC did that, there would be a retailer uproar.

I've said this a million times, but why do comics from DC & Marvel have to be either 2.99 or 3.99 ? What happened to maybe 3.39 or 3.49 ? Aren't they going to make money that way ? Also the 20 pages of story format doesn't work with every writer and artist. Well I also don't like the self cover, too flimsy !!! I realize that I'm complaining too much, but I can't justify paying $3.99 for 20 pages of story. I just can't afford it ! :(

There was an update a few weeks back that issue #3 would also be in this format, so I'd wager that orders are low on this series, and this is something Marvel is doing to keep costs down and maintain profitability.

Which is probably also why Marvel are removing 4 ad pages from all their $2.99 books starting next week (April 4th).

It has to be at least a little bit of a problem if no one's buying ads for these books, right? That seems like a big deal. I have no idea how much the Big Two make on ad revenue, but losing all of it seems like it would be an issue.

For that matter, it would be a pretty mind blowing to find out that no one wants to advertise in comics anymore.

"the only loser is someone who really really loves house ads for other Marvel titles."

And, of course, the other Marvel titles that were being advertised. If I'm reading the Avengers books, but not the X-Men books, that's probably a good place to get my attention. I have no idea how effective they are, and I personally have no problem seeing them go, but if the ad isn't there, it certainly lessens the chance that I'll be enticed to check out other titles.
