My favorite thing about that Captain Marvel teaser just released by Marvel? The fact that it is a callback to the last time Marvel brought the character back from the dead (in 2007′s Civil War: The Return), which had the same “yellow starburst on white background” layout:

I’m curious as to why neither image chose a darker background to make the starburst pop more – or reflect the Captain Marvel outfit. The white background makes me remember the Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel, weirdly enough… although, perhaps, that’s intentional.
We can but hope that this means that whatever the new Captain Marvel reveal turns out to be – We’ll know more after this weekend’s WonderCon announcement – it’ll last longer than that particular revival.

I think the Civil War era layout worked better, this new one just seems kind of slapped together. (Also, I think the white background on both might have something to do with him “walking away from the light.”)

The only way I would be excited about this is if it were Monica Rambeau in her own series written by Dwayne McDuffie and drawn by M.D. Bright. Which is, you know, impossible.

Either there is something wrong with my monitor or there is no starburst visible on the first image though I do remember the actual cover having one.

I’m betting it will be a woman — since they’ve been grooming Ms. Marvel to take the mantle since House of M — I think it’s her.
And I’m betting we’ll have a female writer — knowing Marvel — it’ll be either Kelly Sue or Jen Van Meter. Since Steve Wacker tweeted about this today (and tweeted about Ms. Marvel a few weeks ago) — my final conclusion is:
Ms. Marvel — as Carol Danvers — written by Kelly Sue.
She’ll probably get a new costume too.

There’s the rumor Kelly Sue whatevername is writing a new Ms. Marvel series and may be linked to this Captain Marvel. Wonder how she got the gig, Mrs. Fraction? Care to explain?
