Only four reader-created characters from the 1980s Dial H For Hero series ever appeared again: the Silver Fog came back in Teen Titans (because he was created by the legendary Harlan Ellison); Zeep the Living Sponge returned in Hero Hotline (because he was created by HH artist Stephan DeStefano before he became a pro); and the Squid and the Abyss, in the new Dial H series. As the creator of the Abyss, I'm delighted to read what China Mieville is doing, and no, I don't feel like I'm entitled to any further compensation even if the Abyss does become a hit. I am curious as to whether Lester English, the creator of the Squid, is reading the new series, and what he thinks of it.

I really loved this series when I was a kid. Never worked up a submission, though.

Would love to find this run somewhere. This and All-Star Squadron.

Marv Wolfman and Carmine Infantino kicked off the strip and did most, if not all, of the Adventure Comics stories. By the time the strip became a back-up in Superboy, Bob Rozakis was at the writer's helm. Don't recall who drew it.

Jerry, they had a copy of the form that needed to signed in the comics and it was fairly thorough from what I recall. Don't have a copy handy, but it said something to the effect that by submitting the work, DC had any and all rights to the property and could use it in any way they saw fit and all the creator got was a "Dial 'H' for Hero" t-shirt.

I wonder what the release form was like for having a fan-created character used in this book. Could you imagine where we would be now if one of these characters became a hit? I wonder if any of the fans of this book need to get a lawyer...
