The TV series ended last year, but DC Comics has decided that Smallville will live on – in our hearts. Wait, no, I mean “as a weekly digital comic, with chapters collected into print later.” The DCU blog The Source unveiled the creative team for what they’re calling Smallville Season 11 today: Bryan Q. Miller and Pere Perez, who’ll launch the weekly digital series on April 13, with the print edition following a month later on May 16 (Cat Staggs provides covers for the digital editions, with Gary Frank doing the same for the print version, interestingly enough).
It’s DC’s fourth series to debut digitally, behind Beyond The Fringe, Justice League Beyond and Batman: Arkham City; apparently, the publisher believes that the format is best served as some level of media tie-in. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not it proves popular enough to see a comic-only series at any time – as well as what amount of publicity DC manages to get out of continuing Smallville as a comic, considering the devoted core audience that the show still managed to keep even after ten years on the air.

DC ought to call this After Smallville to tie into their milking of Before Watchmen

This is perfect! We all know how much DC loves to milk the “early years of Superman” (Man of Steel, Birthright, Secret Origins, Earth One). And as someone who had stayed with the series for ten years, I’m excited to see it continue.

Great news! Smallville’s meant a lot to so many, so it’s cool that we get to see the early adventures of this version of Superman continue.

I wonder if they’ll make Perry black to match the guy playing him in the new movie.

I’ll page through the issues someday, see if I still hate Smallville as much as I did when it was on, or if I’ve softened up. I wouldn’t pay to read them though

I have Smallville seasons 1-10 in my car! I carry it around with me in a backpack!

Some of my favorite Blog posting comments are the ones that translate into “I’m admitting I’m an a$$hole.”

Interesting variation on the costume, seems it’s more in line with David Williams design from the McG Flyby movie proposal, from ten years back.
Better design than the current outfit.
An at least we get to see the Welling Man of Steel official in costume.
I’ll check it out.

2 brief notes about the items DC is releasing Digitally:
1. Beyond the Fringe is just a one-shot.
2. The Arkham project is called Arkham Unhinged and it looks like it might only be a 5 issue mini but that part’s not clear yet.

I gave up on Smallville before it ended, but I’m seriously considering checking this out, just because of the former Batgirl creative team. That series was great and a really unfortunate casualty of the reboot.
