For those particularly concerned about what the Sinister Six got up to in this week’s Amazing Spider-Man, writer Dan Slott has some calming words for you. (Spoilers for those clicking through).Resurrecting his Formspring because, in his words “there’s a LOT of this clogging up my inbox,” Slott wanted to reassure fans of three things about the unfortunate fate of the Winter Guard:
1. I called David Gallaher (last Winter Guard writer) ahead of time to make sure that he was cool with the Winter Guard scene I wanted to do in ASM #676.
2. The current Winter Guard set up is that they’re ALWAYS dying and the Russians have multiple replacements ready in the wings.
3. And even taking that into account, with the Winter Guards’ power sets, tech, and abilities, if you CAN’T come up with a way that they COULD have survived– mere SECONDS after that panel– you should turn in your fanboy credentials right now.
In other words, it’s comics… and in comics, even if you see the body, it doesn’t mean anyone’s actually dead. Ask Bucky (twice).

If enough people are complaining about this aspect of the story that he needs to issue a clarification, maybe he should consider the possibility that he should have written the story differently.
