Lovely art alert:
That’s JH Williams III’s variant cover for the first issue of The Secret History of D.B. Cooper, a new Oni Press series by Brian Churilla that debuts in March next year. The regular cover (by Churilla, who you might know from the Avengers and the Infinity Gauntlet mini awhile back) is kind of spectacular, as well:
In case you’re wondering “Who is D.B. Cooper and why should I care about his secret history?,” here’s the blurb for the series:
The Secret History of D.B. Cooper is a full-color series written and drawn by Brian Churilla (The Anchor, The Avengers and the Infinity Gauntlet) detailing the previously untold story of what really happened forty years ago when a man calling himself D.B. Cooper skyjacked an airplane, collected a ransom, and parachuted into oblivion taking the loot with him. Churilla’s comic book retelling uncovers a vast conspiracy lurking behind the legend of D.B. Cooper. The actual tale is almost too strange to be believed, and yet too important to ignore.
I’m a fan of Oni’s books in general; besides obvious things like Scott Pilgrim or Queen and Country, things like The Sixth Gun and Spontaneous have been really great this year. I’m looking forward to checking this out, if only for the artwork.
