Patty Jenkins is out as director of 2013′s Thor 2, Deadline reports.
The Monster director is said to be leaving as a result of “creative differences,” though she may end up working on a superhero movie after all — just not, apparently, this one.
Jenkins was officially announced as the director of Thor 2 back in October, following a few weeks of speculation. Jenkins would have taken over from Kenneth Branagh, director of the original Thor. It would have been her first foray into the genre, and a rare example of a female director helming a superhero film.
A new director is expected to be chosen quickly, in order for Marvel Studios to make the previously announced release date of Nov. 15, 2013. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston are all on board to return for the sequel.

As a fan, obviously taking Marvel’s side on anything to do with their characters.

As a fan who isn’t NH, I remind him of Iron Man 2.

Get Alfonso Cauron, though he may be too good for Thor at this point. Chris Hemsworth was great as Thor, but the movie itself was so bloody cheeky. Now if someone has the balls to make a blood and guts Thor epic, I’m down. This is Marvel’s pansy ‘G’ rated Thor after all. The license for it is open to the public.

Correct, Marvel went very soft, the whole movie could have been darker and really left a stronger impression,,,,good point i cant remember iron man 2

Use Jenkins for a Ms. Marvel or Black Widow movie instead. Try to showcase some of Marvel’s iconic females.

Iron Man 2 had Whiplash and War Machine. Why isn’t Branaugh doing it? I loved Thor the movie. For what it was, it was great.

@Pallanfred
Iron Man 2 was also used as largely an Avengers set-up movie that just happened to have Iron Man’s cast. I’m willing to bet that Jenkins was being forced to use Thor’s cosmology as set up for the rumored Guardians of the Galaxy movie they want in 2013 or something like that. So, it would’ve been another Marvel Universe movie that just happened to have Thor in it.

I like this news. I wasn’t crazy about this director taking over
Thor in the first place. As for a “blood and guts” version of Thor, what comic have you guys been reading for the last 50 years? Aside from some more recent books, Thor has never been about “blood and guts”. He’s not Conan for God’s sake. All we need is an action oriented story with good visuals on the villains and a little less snarky humor than the first movie.

@NeoSamurai
I don’t know why everyone keeps saying that Iron Man 2 was some big “set up” for Avengers. There are literally TWO scenes that mention “Avengers”. That’s it.

Lingo- So Black Widow, who did NOTHING to forward the plot (here is a fun experiment…watch Iron Man 2 and fastforward through all of her parts…and you realize you missed NOTHING important) wasn’t just a set up for “The Avengers”?

I finally just saw Iron Man 2, expecting the worst after all the online bashing I saw of it. It was great. I have no idea why it’s held up as some example of a subpar movie. It was very well-done.

@Lingo
There’s also the SHIELD-Howard Stark connection which could’ve also been handled by an additional Rhoades or Pptts scene (“Hey, Tony, look what we’ve discovered–your dad’s old notes hidden in the park”). There’s also Agent Coalson’s “I’ve got a job in New Mexico” scene.
And that leads to the first Thor where Coalson and Hawkeye’s scenes really didn’t have any purpose whatsoever except as Avengers set-up.

I doubt it was Marvel’s fault that 15 minutes or so of Iron Man 2 were wasted on the director inserting himself into the movie in some painful-to-watch, horrible scenes, while the big climatic ending against whiplash lasted all of 5 minutes. Favreau’s ego got in the way of a good IM sequel. The Black Widow scene at the end was one of the better moments of the film. And if she wasn’t in IM2, people would bitch about scenes in Avengers wasted on introducing BW.

I hear Brett Ratner isn’t doing anything since he was fired from the Oscars…(bad joke, sorry)…
December 7th, 2011 at 5:56 pm
I guess that means Brian Kirk is back in the running. If not, there’s always Nicolas Winding Refn or the dude that made THE EAGLE.

In regards to THE AVENGERS, why was Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne left out of the movie?
December 8th, 2011 at 8:00 am
What the F? You can’t have a movie set in a universe where spectacular shit happens and not refer to that other stuff. That’s how it works. Isn’t that what people have been complaining about previous to these films? The weakest Marvel Studios film is still light years ahead of just about every comic movie before them, with very few exceptions. Iron Man 2, by its nature, can’t be but so introverted. The fact that actual comics work that way is pretty ridiculous, and that it all the super heroes only cross paths every major event, even though they all live in New York. Tony Stark shouldn’t be able to walk downt the street without bumping into another super. Everyone needs to quit being so pissy, apparently, myself included.
