When I was a kid, I loved the first of December because that meant that my family could break out the advent calendar and start the countdown to Christmas Day. There was always something about the daily routine of opening the little card doors and seeing what was underneath (especially if it was chocolate). With that in mind – as well as my love of holiday-themed comics, the more sentimental and ridiculous the better – I decided to attempt my very own version of an advent calendar right here on Blog@: Every day between now and Christmas Day, I’ll post a holiday comic cover under the jump, as your own little festive treat. Click through for the first!
Above: The great Green Lantern: Mosaic #9, cover by Cully Hamner. Mosaic is one of those cruelly-forgotten series that really deserves some kind of mass critical re-appraisal, I think, and this issue in particular is one that should be revisited. One of my favorite holiday comics of all time, if only because it really gets at the ambivalence that the holidays can bring.

It’s going to be a great month if the covers are up to this standard. I agree, Mosaic is a wonderful series – come on DC, collect it!

+1 for collecting/printing MOSAIC!

Nope, the world really doesn’t need any more dead tree collections. Go buy the comics off eBay.

This is an awesome idea. I will definitely be back each day for this feature.

Green Lantern: Mosaic was a great comic. It was a shame it was canceled and a shame it’s not more remembered.

This was a great comic that I don’t think ever was really reprinted or at least not for a long time. It was series that introduced me to GL John Stewart. I just found my copy of this issue.

Reprint it. Twice. Take that hippies. Dead tree collections rule.

I have been asking for a reprint of Mosaic for years…that’s. what I want for Christmas. That and digital fanboys to get off collectors backs about print media. No one cares about hippie crap on a comic site.

When this series came out originally, it was the only Green Lantern book I bought even though Hal and Guy both had series at the time. It was so much more orignal than any other GL books of the time or since. If DC doesn’t want your money, just go buy a set off Ebay if you can. I would recommend Mosaic even to people who aren’t that into superhero comics.

The art was absolutely ghastly & horrid! Hate to say it.
