I covered King City in an earlier post (http://www.core77.com/blog/architecture/the_metropolis_in_comics_part_2_day_19487.asp), and although Parker is an absolutely beautiful book, I'm not sure it's quintessential specifically for all designers. I did completely forget Hickman though...woops... It was hard to narrow down the list to only a handful, trust me! That book has the best design sense of any other book... and I adore everything on that list, but Hickman lays out a book better than anyone today.
