Really, who saw this coming? The Syfy channel has ordered a pilot script based on DC Comics’ Booster Gold, according to a report in the Hollywood Reporter. The script will be written by Andrew Kreisberg, a screenwriter who’s previously worked for DC writing both Batman Confidential and Green Arrow/Black Canary, as well as episodes of the Justice League animated series, and will “center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time,” according to the Reporter.
This won’t be Booster’s live-action debut; he appeared in an episode of the final season of Smallville written by Geoff Johns, although that will be unlikely to connect with this new version. Somewhere, Dan Jurgens is smiling to himself at the prospect of the word “boosterrific” breaking into mainstream geek usage.

I know there will be people concerned about Booster going to the network that gave us Sharktopus, but I for one think it is a perfect fit. The time travel aspect, the need for CGI (that, lets face it, will never be good enough, so we might as well embrace bad CGI for humor’s sake) and Booster’s personality itself fit well. Also, Booster could easily get several seasons on syfy, due to cable’s needed viewers being less than that of a network. The crew they are getting is shaping up to be very nice…now time will tell if they continue with the good.

I for one would welcome the crossover between Booster Gold and Sharktopus.
November 22nd, 2011 at 1:30 pm
I never in a million year would have seen this coming…and yet, I am thrilled to pieces. TO PIECES!
November 22nd, 2011 at 1:44 pm
Genius. This has the potential to be utterly fantastic. (Please don’t screw it up, Syfy.)
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:12 pm
This is so boosterrific
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:15 pm
Now if they could only get the writer who worked with Johns on the first year of the Booster comic, Jeff Katz. He used to be in Hollywood.
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:22 pm
you know from the network that brings me haven, alphas, sanctuary, warehouse 13, etc. i think they have the potential to handle this really well… esspecially if they treat it like smallville in a “figuring out what he’s doing” sort of way. this sounds boosterific. count me in.
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
I’m not too sure, been burned by syfy before now. Besides booster needs to inhabit a world where he is comparable to superman batman and wonder woman and I doubt that they will get the rights to those. I’m holding my breath, I hope it’s good, if it’s ever produced.
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
DAMN YOU SHARKTOPUS!!!!!
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Haven, Alphas, Sanctuary, Warehouse 13, Eurkea, Stargate, Farscape: all EPIC WINS
Flash Gordon and The Phantom: all colossal failures.
Be careful, SyFy…
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:29 pm
The perfect character for a TV series. I’m already having visions of guest appearances by Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner and Mister Miracle.
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:45 pm
Johnny Blaze: 80% is batting pretty well, I’d say….I’d take a .800 hitter in my lineup.
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:55 pm
interesting choice for always thought dc would really waste no time doing their characters live action and just either try for another batman show or maybe a jla one but booster proves he works on tv even though one will have to put up with a live version of skeets again .
November 22nd, 2011 at 3:08 pm
As long as this is better than the reboot. I’ve been happy with DC’s tv exploits, not so much with their comics these days.
November 22nd, 2011 at 3:23 pm
I am a huge Eric Martsolf fan and loved him as Booster Gold on Smallville!!!!Is he attached to this project??? If so, I am already a fan and committed to the series…..
November 22nd, 2011 at 3:27 pm
about damn time.
November 22nd, 2011 at 3:36 pm
The best actor to play Booster already has a steady gig on TV, but it’s in danger of cancellation: Joel McHale of Community fame. He looks the part, he’s funny and snarky, a pretty boy and former college football player, and most famous for playing a character who comes across as a smug, egotistical jerk until he reveals that he’s really a stand-up guy deep down.
November 22nd, 2011 at 4:27 pm
I used to worship at the altar of the early issues of Boosters second series, please oh please, give me good old mad and sometimes dangerous Rip Hunter (Coke bottles from the fifties, computer processors by Brainiac 5…and of course the closet full of sharp and very pointy things once belonging to dear Marquis de Sade
“Pancakes!..Square dancing!!..You don’t bury survivors!!!”

Waiting for the BOOSTER GOLD omnibus to come out. Yet will the WB and DC ever do a live-action epic series evolving around Jack Kirby’s Fourth World characters? After having seen IMMORTALS, it is time.
November 22nd, 2011 at 6:49 pm
With the Booster Gold episode from the final season of Smallville being one of the best of the season, I’m glad to hear this. Can we go ahead and cast Eric Martsolf already?
November 22nd, 2011 at 9:21 pm
I just hope they go for the full on Skeets and not the headphone one from the Smallvile.
Oh … and Ted Kord.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:01 pm
Eric Martsolf is the only actor who should play Booster. He was absolutely brilliant on that Smallville episode. I would watch every week. Cast Eric Martsolf now!!!

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeu! (gross)
November 23rd, 2011 at 5:54 am
OMG BOOSTER GOOOOOOOLD! (Really? That’s all that needs to be said.)
November 23rd, 2011 at 6:59 am
Well, this was exciting for me until I saw SYFY attached.
November 23rd, 2011 at 7:25 am
Yeah. That’s just what a low-grade cable network needs–something to help perpetuate its already useless reputation.
November 23rd, 2011 at 8:01 am
Booster Gold has always sucked, ive never read one arch or page where i gave a crap about this character. I do not get the allure of the character whose been written so poorly since his inception.
SyFy series tend to be at least mildly entertaining more often than not so ill give this a try but i would not say i had high hopes.
November 23rd, 2011 at 9:34 am
Half of you are dead inside!!! Hating on something before it even gets off the ground….lighten up – its Boosterrific!!!
November 23rd, 2011 at 9:46 am
Did not see that coming… but it just might work. I have to say I’m looking forward to this. Actually, I’m looking forward to the first time a CGI Skeets says something like, “I’m not sure that’s such a good idea, sir.” The rest will just be sauce for the goose.
November 23rd, 2011 at 10:14 am
I can see now the cheap approach to this series
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:18 pm
I like the Joel McHale suggestion. Oh, and please cast Billy West as the voice of Skeets. (West played Skeets to perfection on Justice League Unlimited.)
November 23rd, 2011 at 5:53 pm
I am so excited for this! I hope it pans out! Although I would prefer the Geoff Johns incarnation, more of a humble hero masquerading as a cocky, self serving, showboating type.
November 23rd, 2011 at 8:14 pm
too bad it’s the syfylis channel
there needs to be a true sci fi network
November 24th, 2011 at 7:35 am
Awesome! I hoping they don’t mess it up, SyFy have got a bit or a rep for making poor or cheap shows but done right this could be truely Boosterific!
November 25th, 2011 at 1:51 pm
syfy channel = cheap & nasty.
January 30th, 2012 at 7:14 pm
sy-fy needs to get bought by someone that actually gives a decent crap about science fiction and fantasy…not Ghost Hunters and frakkin wrestling. Stargate, Star Trek, Dr Who (old and new), BSG, should be STAPLES there…with room for actual QUALITY programming that fans of this genre can truly get behind and be proud of. If i ever win the BIG lottery, i will make such a channel and keep it far from the reaches of crappy reality tv shows and the WWE. And some billionaire out there needs to buy up all the rights and properties for shows that were cancelled by sy-fy and fox and make new shows!
