		<description>The point of the article is actually the incredible fraud that was occurring in newsstand sales at the time. There were no real verification procedures on sold/unsold copies, so distributors simply reported very low sales (say, 1/3 of the books), paid almost nothing for the comics, and then sold the essentially free remainder (the 2/3 they hadn&#039;t paid for, and were &quot;supposed to&quot; destroy) to non-mainstream markets.</description>
