@Joe S. Walker, It was a limited series. If they book had been late in any way, they would have just rescheduled it for a later date. Scrape a book will cost them all the money they gave to the creators to produce it.

Canceling it because it was late (which is purely speculation) doesn't make any sense. The only move that makes sense from a business standpoint is if they thought publishing the book would cost them more money than they could make back, and at such a cost that would even offset how much they paid the creators.

So your comment is without basis.

Well done. Interesting report. All that I can think of is how much I wanted to read this series, and how little I want to read the third AVENGERS title by Brian Bendis or any of the X-Men expansion books. Marvel is quickly becoming a one trick pony, running all of their series into the ground. They remind me of Dc in the 90's.

Does a commitment to diversity mean using an artist who can't deliver on time?

"... and that’s with the New 52 line’s returnability meaning that initial orders are being under-reported in that chart ..."

Diamond's reduction for returnability only covers the chart itself, though, according to John Jackson Miller, not the market-share data. (Also, only 41 of the "New 52" launch titles were made returnable. For the September "Month-to-Month Sales" column, which should go up next week, I've recalculated the numbers to reflect the real numbers, not the reduced ones.)

The end of your post is nonsensical. Why do you think Marvel is interested in diversity or championing a fringe book that may be great but won't sell huge numbers? The only thing the number-crunchers at Marvel are concerned with is how much money a book can make vs how much it will cost to produce. Profit. If another derivative Spider-man book can be released instead of a non-franchise title with pretensions of artistry, that's fine with them so long as the thing makes money. I wish things were different but they simply are not.

<>

Yes, it has.

Several times in fact.

But - The Nick Spenser Cloak & Dagger book did not hit expectations - so is it really that surprising? I don't think so. I think Spenser, judging by how he has been tossed around will be free of his Marvel contract shortly.
