We’ve had plenty of photos showing The Dark Knight Rises actress Anne Hathaway in costume, just not in costume. We’ve only really seen one shot of the actress in her Catwoman garb and most of us assumed it wasn’t the finished product. Well now we know it wasn’t. Here’s Hathaway with what everyone was waiting for…cat ears.
So…I don’t know what the hell is going on anymore. The previous costumed shot we saw of Hathaway had her wearing technologically advanced goggles closer to her recent look in the comics rather than the 1960s Batman television series and this look screams Lee Meriwether to me. Not that I don’t love Meriwether and the other 60s Catwoman looks but this feels too cartoony to me, especially for the Nolan-verse.
The shots were taken over the weekend in Los Angeles where the actress was filming a scene with both Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. It’s extremely hard to tell in these shots but the ears are definitely attached to the mask and look, to me at least, like they could potentially pull down to form that goggle look we saw previously. Most people assumed that would be the case.
Now that we’ve seen more shots of the Catwoman costume I think one of my biggest complaints are the boots. For a director who likes to keep things realistic, over-the-knee stilettos (with silver heels no less) are not the best way to burgle/fight crime.
My other issue with the look is Hathaway’s hair flowing free. I don’t know if I’d necessarily push for an entire head covering but it’s seems a little secret identity counter-productive not to mention the whole issue of it getting grabbed/stuck in something while working.
So ladies and gents, now that we’ve seen what is most likely the final Catwoman look for The Dark Knight Rises, what do you think? Too much? Too little? Perfect or go back to the drawing board bad?

Why do I get the feeling this is a last-minute add in knee-jerk reaction to the Ethnic Loss Of All Crap that was the fannish reacion to not seeing cat ears somewhere?
September 25th, 2011 at 11:23 am
The only thing that annoys me is the boots. Catwoman hasn’t worn heels in the comics for years and year and years now. Considering how (comparatively) realistic Nolan likes to keep things, it’s such a stupid costume choice to make.
September 25th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Honestly, as long as she’s good at being Selina Kyle, I can forgive costumes…they’re costumes. I just want her as awesome in costume and out! What’s wrong with industries listening to their fans? Isn’t that what we want them to do? If they did, I think that’s pretty kick ass and they should be commended for it. I’m in love with the ears and whole outfit honestly. I think it’s very modern interpretation, and I actually like the heels, I think it makes it sexy. If I wasn’t a klutz I would rock boots like that.
September 25th, 2011 at 12:16 pm
Yeah, not looking good at all. Wasn’t a big fan of the first photos, but they at least looked realistic. It just doesn’t seem to fit in the Nolan universe. Still, I’m glad they are including the ears, which are the signature part of the costume.
September 25th, 2011 at 1:04 pm
I, for one, would want to see the Gotham City Catwoman costume or some facsimile of it. I didnt like the Tim Burton Batman movies. But Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costume was hot. The modern contemporary comic outfit is hot. Hathaway looks like she’s wearing a cheap Halloween costume. For the money they have undoubtedly dumped into this film, she could go to a costume shop. Not the budget isle at Target.
September 25th, 2011 at 2:13 pm
It looks good to me, but I can finalize my opinion until Ms Hathaway and I film a scene together.
With her in that costume.
Written by Judd Winnick.
…I’m sorry, where am I again?
September 25th, 2011 at 2:43 pm
I think Nolan’s is punking us.
Or she’s dressing that way at a costume party.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:07 pm
If you look at these pics and the earlier images of her on the bike together, it’s apparent that these “cat ears” are the goggles she was wearing in the previous shots. Swivel the cat ears down over her mask and together they make the goggle look we saw before.
Makes sense with the form over function deal that Nolan has been going for. What looks like cat ears up on top of the head are really high tech (probably night vision) goggles that can be swiveled into place at a moment’s notice. Not a bad idea.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:12 pm
I think the hightech goggles turn up like a visor and give the impresion of ears, but thats just a shot in the air.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:15 pm
People complained about her lack of headgear in the first pics and why she didn’t have stilettos. Now she has them on and they complain yet again. I’m pretty sold on the whole thing so far. The argument of “I thought this was supposed to look realistic” is getting really old already. While it may try to look realistic these are still comicbook characters. We don’t have to dissect every single detail of the set pics, to complain it doesn’t look realistic and and then to yet complain she misses this part or that part of the costume from the comics. Realism can really only go so far, despite what Nolan claims. Was Too Face’s look more realistic? Or is there any criminal today that walks around in purple suit and green hair? So on that note, this costume does not look cartoony to me at all. It’s what Catwoman is. Let’s see her in action first and make judgments later.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:15 pm
Uh… yeah, that’s what I just said.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:16 pm
love the third pic btw, its like, “hey you know Im Batman?”
September 25th, 2011 at 3:16 pm
(My last post was aimed @Emiliano)
September 25th, 2011 at 3:17 pm
thats what board said
September 25th, 2011 at 3:19 pm
Ha! Okay, that’s funny.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:27 pm
Did anyone else notice that these aren’t ears and that they are the goggles she was wearing in the first pic?
September 25th, 2011 at 3:32 pm
Haha. I should have read the comments. Durrr.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:44 pm
I know it’s another stupid nit picky thing, but I hate her hair. Hathaway doesn’t look like Selena Kyle, she looks like Anne Hathaway in a jump suit.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:49 pm
Not a fan, it looks cheap and amateurish but perhaps that is the point and shell get a full costume later on, as it is she looks like a reject from kickass or Robin in drag! Underwhelmed is the word
September 25th, 2011 at 3:52 pm
I’m really liking it! Anne Hathaway in her costume reminds me of Julie Newmar’s Catwoman from the Batman television series, and that can never be a bad thing! I have complete faith in her that she will do a great job in the role!
September 25th, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Eh. Looking forward to the movie. Nolan hasn’t disappointed on quality. The costume is not thrilling me though.
September 25th, 2011 at 4:12 pm
To be honest, is Batman looking all that great without lighting and effects? So why don’t we all chill out.
September 25th, 2011 at 4:31 pm
People complained about the lack of cat ears when the first pictures surfaced now people complaim about the cat ears because thay make the costume least realistic, well I complain about the people that complain everytime a new picture of an unfinished production appears, is like they really like the picture to fail…
September 25th, 2011 at 4:35 pm
Hey, Batman’s smiling. Batman doesn’t smile! That’s not Batman!
September 25th, 2011 at 4:42 pm
I like how people here are complaining that this outfit doesn’t fit within the Nolan Universe. Nolan approved this costume, and by definition, that makes it fit into the Nolan universe.
“Hey Jimmy, you know, that last guitar riff wasn’t Hendrix enough.”
September 25th, 2011 at 6:17 pm
Mmmm-yeah, I am hoping that the “cat-ears” profile is incidental rather than intentional. The boots would be cool if she could snap those heels off in a moment’s notice. I do agree with the criticisms of the hair. I really think that a cowl that would hide the hair and obscure the face would be much more practical. I guess I expect Selina to be a bit more savvy.
In perspective, I am not sure which is a bigger lapse in judgement, high heels in a heist, free hair when trying to pick a lock or not be recognized, or having sex with someone who you don’t care about who they are, what their history is or how to contact them when the test results come back.
Just sayin’
September 25th, 2011 at 6:27 pm
Got to say it is probably an early scene from a masquerade party/ charity event that Wayne Industries is throwing and Selina is most likely casing for a later job.
At least that is what my opinion is.
Of course, Anne in tight clothing is reason enough for me to look at the photos, I didn’t even notice the goggles/ears.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:18 pm
Emiliano is right, it was confirmed a while back that her goggles, when up on her head, resembled the cat ears.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:07 pm
Her hair should have been short, she should have had a cowl, and goggles. I can forgive the boots.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:10 pm
you nerds will never be satisfied. go back to the teat
September 25th, 2011 at 8:24 pm
MEH.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:21 pm
I was expecting the goggles from Darwin Cookie’s look. Disappointed in Noaln. But Anne is sexy as ever!
September 25th, 2011 at 9:22 pm
Love it! She actually looks like CATwoman!!!
September 25th, 2011 at 9:45 pm
You dweebs who are complaining now are the same idiots who will be gushing about the flick and spooging themselves over her costume on opening night.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:50 pm
What’s the big fuss? You would think after two successful darknight films that the director should know what he is doing by now…? I have complete faith that after post production and at final release, no one would complain. End of.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:53 pm
I like how these fanboys are already downplaying the costume. These same fanatics are most likely drooling at all the Avengers costumes. Friggin Marvel fanboys.
September 25th, 2011 at 11:30 pm
effing haters, do your own movie then!!!!
September 25th, 2011 at 11:42 pm
Does anyone even remember that Catwoman’s original costume had her hair down and not covered up by the costume. With the reality that Nolan is trying to portray, I think it works rather well. Remember, he’s going for function over fashion and there’s still a year before the movie even comes out. Plenty of time to release red herrings.
September 25th, 2011 at 11:46 pm
I have no problems with this whatsoever and am looking forward to the movie’s release.
September 26th, 2011 at 12:26 am
I don’t understand most comic book fans. Mr Nolan, New Batman movie will blow your socks off and Ann Hathaway’s cat woman will have you by the balls just like heath’s joker.
September 26th, 2011 at 12:26 am
“Remember, he’s going for function over fashion”
Then she shouldn’t be wearing stiletto heels.
September 26th, 2011 at 1:34 am
They should have got the guys in who designed the Arkham City outfit. i loved the previous 2 movies but this outfit is not really impressive. im hoping like earlier posts have said and itll get better but as it is ill wait for a real still from Nolan
September 26th, 2011 at 1:48 am
I hate Anna Hathaway! bitch is ruining movies after movies with her fat thighs and bad acting
September 26th, 2011 at 3:08 am
Newsarama you are kiddin’ us right? Those are the goggles upside down(see the larger version of pic 3) and you see cat-ears?
September 26th, 2011 at 3:59 am
@Deep_Shock
Those are obviously what anyone who saw her would associate the goggles with though. Shes a “cat”.
September 26th, 2011 at 4:55 am
As long as she doesn’t start purring and saying stuff like “The Cat will catch the Bat,” or anything else campy and stupid, I’m fine with it. And the heels? Well, I’m a man. And the outfit’s got me thinking dirty thoughts. Anne is hot!
September 26th, 2011 at 5:16 am
I like this principles of the suit… i don’t like the high heels as its just a bit silly to think she can scale a building or kick someone in the face without breaking her ankle. I find the goggles a very smart idea, in that they represent cat ears, however i cant reconcile this against the fact that they are more than happy to define Batman as being a man who dresses like a bat, but seemingly they are shy of saying catwoman dresses like a cat. I know there is a lot of spec that the character will just be known as Salina, however i still think this is a half way compromise which isn’t one thing or the other, which will lead to a forgettable performance, and damaging the third film in a awesome series.
September 26th, 2011 at 5:55 am
The high heels make no sense. Being cat-woman, running, jumping, climbing. Boots man! NOLAN, BOOTS! She still will have sex appeal, if that is what the audience is after. Would a real Cat-Woman have heels or boots? I think boots.
September 26th, 2011 at 6:00 am
outfit = Thumbs up but needs accessories. wheres the finger claws? Wheres the whip?
Cat ears/mask = Thumbs down. I dont like it. Its too…….60s. I would have prefered the hood and goggles she has been using for a long time now.
Verdict. Anne Hathaway will have to present a Heath Ledger calibur performance to make us forget about the suit and focus more on the cat.
September 26th, 2011 at 7:08 am
The real news is the rumor that Thanos is going to be in the Avengers movie. The Avengers movie is going to be awesome!
September 26th, 2011 at 8:13 am
Check those cat-ears again. The are the goggles she wore in that first pic of her in costume riding the Batpod. She just has them up on her head/off of the mask and they simulate cat-ears. Very Julie Newmar meets modern day comics interpretation sans cowl.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:17 am
Previous photos:
“WAAAHHHH! THERE’S NO CAT EARS!!!!! THAT’S NOT CATWOMAN!!!”
Current photo:
“WAAAHHHH! IT LOOKS TOO CARTOONY AND RETRO! THAT’S NOT NOLAN’S BATMAN STYLE!!!!!”
Why don’t the lot of you shut up and wait until the filming is complete, the footage is edited into a finished product, and THE GOD**** MOVIE IS ACTUALLY RELEASED to pass judgement.
Good lord, fans are such a bunch of whiney little children. All the years we spent having to bear poor writing, D-list actors and cheeseball special effects, and now that we have wonderful effects technology, both physical and CG, and talented professionals doing their best to bring our favorite comics to life in live action, an annoyingly vocal section of fandom are quick to find fault with the tiniest aspect that doesn’t fit their exacting personal criteria for a character, story, prop, etc. Pitiful.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:46 am
i’ve always felt that, the right person can make the clothes, rather than vice-versa. and while i don’t care to debate ms. hathaway’s acting abilities. the right woman could pull it off, it’s just not anne.
September 26th, 2011 at 10:21 am
@Pennyforth – Word. Most fans are just plain idiots who only know to search for things to complain about. What a bunch of retards.
September 26th, 2011 at 10:55 am
That’s right everybody. Just keep on second guessing Nolan. I mean, he only knocked it out of the park twice already. Why trust that he can do it again? That was sarcasm for you slow ones.
September 26th, 2011 at 11:30 am
The catwoman costume sucks!!! she looks stupid in that cheap hallowen costume, or even worse a table dancer costume, look at that boots! c´mon!! CAT EARS?? SHIT!! ARE WE STILL IN THE 60´S!!!
September 26th, 2011 at 12:33 pm
Look at the light reflected in the “cat-ears”. Those are goggles. Good job introducing an origin for de denomination of her alias and being realistic and true to the comics at the same time. Creative!
September 26th, 2011 at 1:43 pm
There are cosplay outfits that blow that one away, I saw one in the Comics Alliance comments on this that was amazing. This is just uninspired and lame, and frankly doesn’t do much for Anne Hathaway.
September 26th, 2011 at 2:12 pm
I like how everyone is using the word “realistic” in regards to a Batman movie. Realism, no matter how much it seems to be in lined with reality, is nowhere near it. I don’t care until the movie comes out.
September 26th, 2011 at 2:51 pm
First off, I think you mean “function over form,” not the other way around, based on the rest of your paragraph. Second, if Nolan was after function over form, then the stiletto heels really make no sense for a cat burglar.
September 26th, 2011 at 2:54 pm
I wish someone would tell Nolan that realistic doesn’t have to be synonymous with boredom or at the expense of cool.
September 26th, 2011 at 4:02 pm
It’s a throwback to my favorite Catwoman, Julie Newmar. I love it!
September 26th, 2011 at 10:41 pm
YUCK!!!! Soooo disappointed in what I’ve seen thus far. I was never a fan of her being cast because Catwoman is supposed be innately sexy, with an unapologetic attitude. Neither of these qualities does the Anne Hathaway I’ve seen in interviews posses. Yes, she is a capable actress but you can’t “act” Catwoman, she already has to be inside you ready to be released (Michelle Phieffer set the bar). From these stills Anne looks like a sorority girl getting ready for the “Halloween” rush!!! Not sexy, Not dangerous, NOT Catwoman!!! At this point I’ll lay blame on the costume dept. and Nolan for creating an incredibly non-stimulating (visually speaking) costume. I’ll leave final judgement for after I see it, but I hope and pray Anne can put some purrrr in that pussycat to give us fans the Catwoman we deserve! MEEEOOOOWWWW!!!!
Side bar- Does anyone remember that Michelle was not originally cast as Selina? It originally went to Annette Bening, who gave up the role when she found out she was pregnant (for Warren Beatty). She’s also an incredible actress, but how different would that have been, huh?

Very good posting, I am browsing back frequent to hunt for improvements.
