Secondly, I still don’t understand how using Osborn and the Dark Avengers again is any different than Baron Zemo returning with a group of Masters of Evil? Maybe you don’t like that either, but I’m not sure why you would note it as if it were odd.

Oh, I can assure you he succeeded in writing that story. I read it myself. It was published and everything. On real paper. I get the impression that you didn’t particularly like it but that doesn’t change the fact that Bendis did in fact write it. And it wasn’t ripped off from a crime novel, which contradicts your claim that Bendis’ Avengers books are just “minor variations on a few crime fiction scenarios.”

Yeah, Dark Avengers totally ripped off that one Chandler novel where a time travelling sorceress invades the country controlled by a mad scientist so the UN has to send in the God of War and an alien/human symbiote enitity to team up with a bisexual mutant crimelord in order to take down her army of monsters and ghouls. You’re overlooking the similarities between the storylines. It’s as if a novelist who did a book about an international conspiracy involving a holy object figured that, since it sold well, he’d do another one, and just changed the names of the conspirators and the object.

It’s fitting to mention South Park, since the multi-episode superhero parody featuring Coon, Cthulhu, et al. was on last night, and the power Mysterion (Kenny) had was handled as well as any unconventional power has been handled.

Seriously, though: The text in the Newsarama piece about new Dark Avengers and Osborn rising to power again — who in God’s name at Marvel could possibly think that was being creative? If that’s what they think being creative, inventive, and original is, Disney could fire most of the editorial staff and writers, and just redo old stories with new artwork.
