Two immediate thoughts on seeing Daniel Acuna’s pages from Avengers #18:
- He is an amazing artist. With him on board, Avengers has pretty much just jumped to being somewhere up there on the list of the best looking monthly books on the stands for me.
- If that scene isn’t in part a flashback to Civil War, then is that another Goliath has ended up dead as the result of a big crossover event? I mean, the appearance of Sin’s robot Nazi things earlier suggests this is taking place post-Fear Itself, but another giant Goliath corpse lying there just seems… weird. Maybe Goliath is going to become the South Park Kenny of Marvel events now? Actually, considering that a giant Wasp ended up dying as a result of Secret Invasion, maybe it’d be safer for all Marvel heroes to give up on this size-changing gig now, just in case. I’m looking at you, Stature.

It’s fitting to mention South Park, since the multi-episode superhero parody featuring Coon, Cthulhu, et al. was on last night, and the power Mysterion (Kenny) had was handled as well as any unconventional power has been handled.
Seriously, though: The text in the Newsarama piece about new Dark Avengers and Osborn rising to power again — who in God’s name at Marvel could possibly think that was being creative? If that’s what they think being creative, inventive, and original is, Disney could fire most of the editorial staff and writers, and just redo old stories with new artwork.

I think that one of the technicians in the picture is Ms. Hand. I’m guessing this is a flashback to her past work as a SHIELD agent. That also explains why Maria Hill appears to be in charge.

I know, who ever heard of a villain coming back? Villains are supposed to stay dead and gone forever after they’ve been defeated once.

You’re overlooking the similarities between the storylines. It’s as if a novelist who did a book about an international conspiracy involving a holy object figured that, since it sold well, he’d do another one, and just changed the names of the conspirators and the object.
Bendis has been doing minor variations on a few crime fiction scenarios ever since he began writing NEW AVENGERS. It appears that he’s simply not capable of writing stories with SF and fantasy elements. His repeat use of Osborn and the Dark Avengers confirms that.

I think that was a flashback if you look at the mask it is the mask and same chest wound as Bill Foster. Tom Foster wears goggles and I believe the Revengers Story line takes place after FEAR ITSELF

@Steven R Stahl
Yeah, Dark Avengers totally ripped off that one Chandler novel where a time travelling sorceress invades the country controlled by a mad scientist so the UN has to send in the God of War and an alien/human symbiote enitity to team up with a bisexual mutant crimelord in order to take down her army of monsters and ghouls. You know- that same plot CRIME writers have been using for years.

It’s a Flashback.
#1 that’s the old Goliath Uniform, not the current.
#2 Maria hill is in a S.H.I.E.L.D Uniform. Shield doesn’t exist anymore.

Note that I wrote “It appears that he’s simply not capable of writing stories with SF and fantasy elements.” Trying isn’t the same as succeeding.

“Trying isn’t the same as succeeding”
Oh, I can assure you he succeeded in writing that story. I read it myself. It was published and everything. On real paper. I get the impression that you didn’t particularly like it but that doesn’t change the fact that Bendis did in fact write it. And it wasn’t ripped off from a crime novel, which contradicts your claim that Bendis’ Avengers books are just “minor variations on a few crime fiction scenarios.”

If we’re looking at it from a sales perspective, it worked out pretty well.

You may be confusing capability with desire.
Secondly, I still don’t understand how using Osborn and the Dark Avengers again is any different than Baron Zemo returning with a group of Masters of Evil? Maybe you don’t like that either, but I’m not sure why you would note it as if it were odd.

I don’t even understand how I ended up here, but I believed this submit used to be great. I do not realize who you’re but definitely you are going to a well-known blogger if you are not already. Cheers!
