I wasn’t aware that Superman had to be a “likable” character to be popular. I certainly wouldn’t have found the original 1938 version terribly “likable” now, though he probably was to most readers in the Golden Age.

Dunno I just read the preview of Action #1 and he’s not a likeable character. He’s a pompous, self-important douchebag who thinks he can get away with acting like an idiot and imposing his brand of justice on the world. He’s a loose cannon, one of the main concerns that Batman has with superpowered individuals. I think Morrison went too extreme with his characterization of the New Superman. They’ve essentially turned Superman into a superpowered Batman lol Since it’s sold out, I’m in the minority but it is what it is. I’m glad books are selling out. DC put a lot of money into this reboot so I want it to succeed. So I’m glad it’s succeeding but I just don’t care for many of the new changes or characterizations.

I think Supermutant couldn’t be more wrong in his predictions. A young Superman exulting in his powers, meting out rough and ready justice is an awesome idea, and I think the massive numbers of preorders show people agreeing with that notion. I do a Golden Age Superman podcast (at goldenagesuperman dot libsyn dot com), and I love that elements of that original interpretation of the character are being brought into modern continuity. I have massive amounts of respect for Grant Morrison’s creativity, and the preview art looks amazing. I’ll be reading this before anything else on September 7.

Oh, and Batgirl should be fun, too.

Hello again, “John.” I’m excited as a fan for DC to succeed with their relaunch, of course. Why wouldn’t I be? Oh but again, by listing an email address of “jillsucks@aol.com” I’m guessing you’re attempting to be sarcastic and say those things because I’ve written about my support of Oracle several times. Did you miss the part where I wrote I would be picking up Batgirl #1? Check the internet, it’s there.

Thrilled for Batgirl and the creative team.
But let’s be honest–initial orders could’ve been for 5000 copies so while a sell out sounds great it doesn’t mean it’s a huge seller (…but again in this case I hope it is)

Sad that Birds of Prey isn’t getting the PR push…has the writer even done an interview?

I count that as a plus. If the same ol’ Supes was successful, there’d be no need to do this, would there?

I’ve read the preview of Action #1 here, and I can’t wait to read the rest. Is he recognizable? If you’ve read the first couple of years of the Golden Age Supes, he is. If you’ve never read him, he is. This appears to be a Superman who is still all about truth and justice (as far as the American Way…well, we’ll have to wait and see, eh?). You don’t have to be in your 80′s to appreciate that.

Batgirl I am glad for put I think people are going to be really in for big disappointment with Action Comics. More and more I hear about less and less it seems to be like he wrote Superman in All Star Superman. The way he writes it isn’t superman anyone alive familiar with. Really that will make superman popular again. Make him dis likable and annoying.
