I've been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.

You know what we think about the DC relaunch. You know what you, the comic reader thinks of the DC relaunch but what about the non-comic readers out there

Lets see how this looks in 8 months. Jim Lee has proven that his name is good for a short term spike but how many of these books will have matching or greater appeal than what came before?

As a former shop owner for a number of years, I can't help but think of this as more floundering around in an attempt to fix the comic business model that the advent of the direct sales market destroyed.

I understand that comics will be released online on the same day comic shops get their hard copies. Combine this with the what the general fan -- the Tony Bs of the world -- and this doesn't look that great for comic shops.

I can understand why my local shop just had a 90% sale off all DC graphic novels. Seems like wasted space, doesn't it?

On a side note, I wonder if this means Grant Morrison and his revamp ideas are out at DC?

I think having every character looking like a dated 90's take or wearing a costume with collar implies Jim Lee and co were the wrong people to put in charge of a permanent reboot.

I think this suggests strongly that a leadership change is needed at the top. There is only so much lipstick you can put on a pig before it looks like a dirty hooker.

So you just admitted to being not only a moron but a douche?

How can the person who wrote the oracle article be objective?

Female man-children serving as journalists need to be fired and no this isn't "objective" as all comments are negative and posted by an idiot.

"John," the shops are the ones who have bought the comics and hence the "sell out" as of right now. Not all of those stores have sold out of their stock of the new titles yet. I made no comment in regards to the relaunch being successful or unsuccessful in this post but thank you for the extraneous comment nonetheless.

And why would you post opinions of "disabled folk" here? Am I missing something are are you being deliberately obtuse. Considering you listed your email as "jillsucks@aol.com" I think I know where your opinions lie. But thank you for taking the time out of your day to comment and add to the discussion in whatever way you could.

What a crock. Could you at least pretend to be objective instead of going out of your way to find as many negative comments as you can? These titles are selling out and orders are being placed for 3rd printings for crying out loud. How long can you continue to ignore that this reboot is popular?

Also, for the sake of being objective, mind if I submit the opinions of some disabled folk who just put in their order for a third printing of Batgirl #1 and think it's awesome? Yeah. Thought not.

I like how Mr. Anonymous assumes because he feels a certain way everyone must. I will go out on a limb and post my opinion with out being anonymous.

1) I have all but given up on hero comics. This has brought me back in to the industry. Now it will be up to them to keep me with creativity and story telling. This was one of the points of the reboot.

2) Jill is an authority.

3) So is Alan

4) I am fairly certain people from Newsarama go for walks regularly and will still ignore your rant.

I don't think that was the REAL Mr. Anonymous. ;)

But, in all seriousness, quoting the comments sections of various internet articles isn't really a reflection of the public opinion. I read through the Deadline comments: the overwhelming majority was current or lapsed comic book nerds.

But the point of most blog entries is to foster discussion (or, for the more cynical, generate hits), which this entry accomplished.

Okay, guys. The jig is up. Mr. Anonymous has found us out. Sucha a brave soul, calling out an opinion blog for remarking on opinions and pointing that we, like CNN, NYT and every other site recognized by the Associated Press as a news organization, would dare do a piece on the views of people who don't necessarily agree with us. He's pointed out our obvious habit of deleting all criticism, which reveals at last why there are NEVER negative comments in any of our pieces and we certainly don't respond to any that slip through the cracks. And man, we all know that people who are freelancers and make jokes about dream jobs are folks to be shunned. It's amazing that people like Jill have been able to fool the world and actually get paid by many web-sites to share her views, enough that she makes a living off of it, and that somehow news organizations and comic book publishers care about her opinions, not having seen what the Anonymous One sees. Thank God he pointed this out and is willing to stand by what he says rather than hide behind an alias that basically says "this is an alias."

Thank you, sir, and thank you for telling the world you still read our stuff on a regular basis. It's very big of you. Namaste.

Wait just a tic...

"It’s true, I didn’t post comments from the people on those sites who knew what they were talking about because they’re “us” and they already knew about the relaunch. I tried pulling the ones that didn’t, i.e. the non-comic reading public, and this is what they were saying."

This quote sticks out:

"The world doesn’t want superheroes anymore, not inanimate drawings of them on paper anyway. Now they want social relevance, politics, gender neutrality…there’s enough of that in real life. The soul of comics has been lost, along with the soul of our very culture. Sad. If I worked for DC I’d be looking at China, not the spoiled brat kids of the US who can’t live without electronic toys and media." – J Wolfe

Isn't that Joe Wolfe a.k.a Rev O.J. Flow? Doesn't he blog here?

The real problem here is that a lot of the bloggers on this site are NOT good authority figures on this medium. All they know how to do is blog and snark via this site. Hell, this chick who posted this remark goes into business for herself on a regular basis asking companies to hire her in her articles she posts! Try reading her Twitter feed sometime! It's PATHETIC! She's totally trying to smile and wink her way into a job without doing any real work! BLOGGING ISN'T REAL JOURNALISM!

Someone from Newsarama needs to go for a walk outside and actually talk to non-comic book geek people about the DC relaunch. Sadly, I only read this blog because it's a friggin' train-wreck every damn week. This site has really tanked since Brady left.

(This post will probably be deleted pretty quickly.)

Here's a good example of how most people perceive superheroes:

Film critic David Denby loves Rise of the Planet of the Apes. So much so that he twice shows how much he loathes superheroes.

He is dismissive and snarky, and basically implies that anyone who likes superheroes is an overgrown child. And I don't think he is alone.

Here’s a good example of how most people perceive superheroes:

Film critic David Denby loves Rise of the Planet of the Apes. So much so that he twice shows how much he loathes superheroes.

This cracks me up. From what I've seen and heard and talked about with most of my friends who are non comics folks they had no idea that DC did a soft reboot or whatever they want to call it. This leads me to speculate that the general public at large could care less. I don't think rebooting will be some magic bullet that entices the general public to go out and buy comics. It's just not most peoples thing.

Personally I was invested in about 14 different DC titles before the reboot. Now I'm looking at 4-9 titles total from the New 52. I wonder how many other longtime readers did the same. I'm by no means anti DC or even anti reboot, just that I was invested in a bunch of titles that are no longer available and starting over means I have to pick what I want to read again. There just wasn't enough compelling titles for me to get back to my pre-reboot purchasing levels.

So just looking at this from my own personal view DC made a HUGE gamble. Personally I don't think it's going to pay off in the end. Obviously they are taking the long view on this since they are currently losing money based on year to date numbers (less titles means less money), but if they can build momentum and garner new readers as they roll out more titles in the coming weeks they may come out ahead. I just don't see this getting them many new readers, some yes, but not enough to offset the all the titles current folks were invested in. I could be way off though and most people aren't like me and are actually buying more titles with the relaunch then before.

It's true, I didn't post comments from the people on those sites who knew what they were talking about because they're "us" and they already knew about the relaunch. I tried pulling the ones that didn't, i.e. the non-comic reading public, and this is what they were saying.

FYI:
From the Deadline Article: "Comic book sales aren’t nearly what they were 20 years ago, which is one of the reasons for The New 52. Justice League #1 is the first comic book since January 2009 to break 200,000 in sales."

From the msnbc article: "Comic characters have been changed and histories re-written too many times to count. It's the nature of the industry." which I believe was quite popular at the time. It allowed the writers to tell their story without being constrained by continuity. For the most part the characters did not differ greatly from the originals but allowed for some originality in the stories."

From the Times Article: "Oh go ahead. Do It! Start at #1. Reinvent. It's a STORY. Make new stories. Old guard.... its gonna be ok really. If it doesn't work one can always get a new hobby."

Is this piece serious? Where is the journalism? A couple of comments from the web do not make an article.
What mainstreem comic has sold out 200,000 copies in years?

We get so deeply entrenched in a culture, that it feels kinda shocking when the masses at large make ill-informed sweeping statements about the culture you are a part of. I read comics every week, listen to podcasts and watch shows about them, and all my friends are at the very least OK with the notion that they are mostly written for adults. The same goes with Pro Wrestling. I hear so much positive about the things I am into, that I forget that the majority of people don't understand, and are completely negative on it. Thankfully, the internet has given us the opportunity to create subculture communities where what we like is considered normal.

Is that really the public? These all seem like disgruntled comics fans, with too much time on their hands and a google notify for DC relaunch news. This is a stupid article.

I think there is one sad thing we need to consider: "adults" don't like super-heroes. They never have. They never will. They diss comics, and they diss movies, and they diss anyone who likes super-heroes. And they dismiss all comics as juvenile, and say things like "I didn't know they still published those" and "aren't you too old for that?"

I don't expect anything better from a lot of the public.

Sigh...what Jacob said.

You can't use the comments on an internet article and claim that is what the PUBLIC is thinking. Go read a Yahoo story...they manage in every one to make racist comments about President Obama. You honestly think that is how the public is reacting...or that it is a bunch of internet trolls that get off on whining.

Yes, you say at the end that this is only a small helping. Too little, too late. That should have been at the very beginning of your article, and the title should never had the word PUBLIC in it.

If you want to say this is how the INTERNET is reacting, go right ahead. But don't call it the public.

It's weird how you choose to showcase the negative comments and title your post, "What the public is saying about the DC Comics Relaunch." A bit...misleading.

Plus, most of the commenters at those sites seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to comic books.

I'm giving it a wait and see trial period but I'm not the target audience. I grew up reading comics in the 70s and then was reintroduced to them for a while right around the time of Dark Knight and Watchmen. Since then it's been read graphics and certain collections but entire universe shattering events that happen once a year have been lost on me. Maybe this really will streamline the whole line -- until another publisher decides to muck it up again.

The first issue did not quite hold up for me. It didn't leave me thinking I wouldn't buy the 2nd one either. I think the real bang is coming next week. There has been a ton of good buzz for a few of those books.

52 new issues they are not all going to make it. I am having fun trying to guess which one gets canned first. Justice League is safe no matter what but some of the others.....
