You all know I had some strong thoughts over DC’s decision to take Barbara Gordon out of the chair and return her to Batgirl duty. Well, it’s long past due Babs had a chance to speak for herself. Here are her semi-sensored thoughts on the DC relaunch…
That’s comedy gold right there.
Barbara Gordon is really Teal Sherer. You may know her better as Venom, the vicious video game vixen from Felicia Day’s web series The Guild. Sherer, like Oracle, is a paraplegic, having broken her spine in a car accident when she was fourteen. So as you can imagine, just like I do, she has a very strong connection to the DC comics character and also like the character and myself, Sherer doesn’t let her disability get in her way. Or stop her from making hilarious videos.
Check out the trailer for Sherer’s “My Gimpy Life,” which premiered at the ITV Festival earlier this month.

If Batgirl had been in a wheelchair in the 60s and called Batwoman, then she’d be in a wheelchair in September and called Batwoman then.
This is all about pandering to Silver Age fandorks.

I want to thank both Jill and Teal for this very funny take on how Barbara Gordon would react to the “new 52″. I’m behind you 100% Oracle. This whole “reboot” thing just sucks.

Cripple Babs is gone. The more aesthetically pleasing Batgirl has returned and boring boring wheelchair boring girl is gone. She’s not coming back. Get over it people. Hey, at least you still have Wendy and Horsewoman. Okay, time cry about the ableist sellouts Simone and DC. God, it’s great to be a “silver age fan dork”. We get our asses kissed by DC. It’s totally sweet.

Wow, “John” you really seem to have something against the disabled as you’ve left comments to that effect all over Blog@Newsarama. I’m sorry to hear you feel that way. I, for one, love the disabled as I am one and hope that one day you can overcome your fear of us. Have a wonderful day!
