This is a good choice. @Rob C, change isn’t always good and to assume that dc knows what they are doing is naive. Comic compnanys have screwed up before.

Darkseid is a perfect choice for the League’s first villain. Wouldn’t expect anything less from Johns… although I’m afraid Lee might 90s-up Darkseid’s look. Don’t get me wrong, Jim Lee is a fantastic artist and a great storyteller, but his designs are just CRAP sometimes. No joke, looking at Superman’s new costume evokes a physical feeling of anger and revulsion; it may not be as much of an eyesore as Superman Blue/Red, but it’s every bit as pointless and I’ve seen better designs done by amateurs besides. Anyway, enough complaining; overall the New 52 excites me, and likewise I look forward to seeing Darkseid in story that doesn’t suck as bad as Final Crisis did.

i love me some Darkseid, but seriously, if the “newly formed baby-steps JLA” can beat THE Darkseid right from the jump…then what hope do the writers have of keeping readers compelled? like “Oooh, Promethius!?…oh wait…the JLA whooped Darkseid on day-1, so who is really a threat after that?”. …just how i feel.

Not a bad choice, but it is very cliche. I would have preferred an updated version of the Apellax aliens…but this could be good depending on how they do it.

I’m still not solidly on board with the changes, but I will check everything out with an open mind.

I thought the Apellex (sp?) aliens were the first Justice League villains. They’re the reason the team got together. (y’know, the tree guy, the big gold bird, the crystal guy etc..)

Something people are totally missing, though its understandable if you haven’t read whereever it was this was said- But the Justice League is actually supposed to be brought together and then continue to STAY together because they need to continue to combat a big threat. I don’t expect them to just defeat Darksied and be like “well hes never coming back, hey we should stick together!” I think the first arc is going to end with them knowing he’s going to come back worse than before, or even just know that he’s out there without having fought him in person yet.

#Rob C I know you didn’t ask me, but let me give my 2 cents, please: Yes, I like the iconic uniform better, but I can go on with a trunkless Superman.

What makes me bummed about it is the direction they are taking. A complete 180 from what the character is for oh so many years. “More Kal, less Clark”, against authority, chased by police… DOesn’t seem right to me. Again, to ME.

I always liked that, even with all his powers, he was just ol Clark, farm boy from middle America, trying to help cos he could..

I would have preferred that George Perez drew the first Justice League of America arc, as he finished the JLA/JSA/Fourth World in the Justice League of America v.1 series when he came over to DC Comics. (Yes, I’ve been reading JLA for that long.) Since Gentleman George is working on Superman, however, I guess that’s not going to happen.

So, back to the DCnU Justice League of America series, what issue will Darkseid appear? I really hope that Darkseid appears before the final issue of the first story arc, so that it feels like there’s an actual villain.

Does this mean that Darkseid will be the villian if the Justice League movie ever sees the light of day?

I don’t care if Darkseid is the main villain in the first arc just as long as they have it that Superman is the one who beats him and not Flash, GL or Batman. If they are trying to reestablish Superman as the person all the heroes look up to and inspire to be like or draw their inspiration from then him beating Darkseid would be the right step in that direction. Also it takes this new Darkseid story into the right steps of him becoming a major villain in this new Superman’s life as well.

So sad that the “Crises” were so horrible after the first one. I would’t even care, but they keep selling these things as groundbreaking changes and none of them seem to matter, really, except for sales numbers.

Glad to see the New Gods return. I thought they were really cool.
