We’re eight days away from the era of “The New 52″ starting in earnest with Geoff Johns and Jim Lee’s Justice League #1, and DC’s official PR blog, The Source — by way of Sirius XM’s “Geek Time” show on Howard 101 — has let slip with the identity of the villain in the first arc. Want to be spoiled? Click through to the jump.
Hey, it’s this guy! (Image is a pre-existing one and not from the new Justice League series, it should be noted.)
That’s right — Darkseid is the villain of the opening arc, and since the opening arc has been stated to take place in the past and depict the origin of the Justice League in the world of The New 52, that also means that, as the Source post makes clear, the supreme monarch of Apokolips is the first villain the Justice League faces, ever. (Sorry, Starro.) Additionally, this seems to confirm that the creature Batman’s fighting in the previously released Justice League #1 preview is indeed a Parademon.
It’s also the first time we’ve heard of any of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World characters popping up in The New 52, and in fact is the first time we’ve seen any of those folks show up since Final Crisis wrapped in 2009.
(Alternate, spoiler-y headline: “Darkseid Is… The New 52′s First JUSTICE LEAGUE Villain.”)
