DC’s New 52 Speculation: We’ve Been Didioized

August 18th, 2011
Author Graeme McMillan

Has anyone looked at the DC Nation column in this week’s DC books yet? My attention was caught by this excerpt in particular:

We are certainly happy to have stoked the fires of speculation about The New 52. Carefully planned snippets of sound bites and visuals were designed to grab the fans’ interests in June (when the books were first solicited) and cause it to burst by August 31st when Flashpoint #5 and Justice League #1 hit the stands. With every announcement comes another round of speculation, but truth be told, no one will be certain until they are holding the books in their hands.

First off: Is Dan Didio boasting that, by releasing constantly changing images that provoke speculation and confusion, he’s played the entire comics internet?

Secondly: I’m sure he meant to say “no one outside of DC will be certain,” right? Because as it is, he’s really adding to the “flying by the seat of the collective publisher pants” feeling that many have worried about, when it comes to the launch, especially when you get creators saying this kind of thing in public…

I look forward to the DCnU crashing and burning. It’s about time this jackass got forcibly ejected from the comic book industry.

  2. Xenos Says:

    I totally misread that title.

Actually.. What I read it as first also feels appropriate to how DC is treating their long time supporters and retailers… hell.. and even creators.

  3. M. Says:

Both Marvel and DC treat their fans like garbage. Marvel with their overpricing and ‘break the internet’ hype stories that lead absolutely nowhere; DC with their reboots and resurrection of Silver Age characters nobody cares for at the expense of established modern versions.

We’ve not only been Didioized, we’ve been poured a steaming Cup of Joe while bent over by Bendis.

  4. Alex Says:

“Let’s make things modern by taking out modern versions of our old characters, and bringing the original old versions back… but now they are younger… again…..- and with more tattoos!”

The only thing I am looking forward to is hopefully seeing Wonder Woman in pants when all is said and done. The shorts version of her updated outfit looks anything but relevant/modern.

  5. Ken from Chicago Says:

The one complaint, I and many others had about Jim Lee’s revamp of Wonder Woman’s costume was the jacket. The pants were something I’ve argued should have been added decades ago (same goes for Superman losing his red trunks on the outside look).

However if they are not giving her pants, then what’s the point of ticking off fans needlessly?

If they are giving her pants, what’s the point of the pics of her without pants? Why make yourself look so wishy washy you can’t make a decision this visible?

P.S. And the complaints about the Wonder Woman outfit for the tv show was about how CHEAP the outfit looked, with the way too bright lipstick slathered on but most especially the pants, to say nothing of how ill-fitted, way-too-tight bustier was for Adriane whatshername because it looked like her breasts were mashed up into her chest all the time. No wonder she always looked angry.
