We may have little, shy of a teaser trailer and some production shots, from The Amazing Spider-Man, due in theaters in 2012, but the sequel is already underway, with a release date announced by Sony Pictures today.
May 2, 2014, less than two years after the July 3, 2012 release date of the first film, is the tentative release for the sequel.
Now that we’ve looked 3 years in the future, let’s all take a step back and let the first Marc Webb directed, Andrew Garfield starring film come out first, shall we?

If it has Justin Beber in it, Spider-man can definitely kiss my ass

What the hell is this? The last movie to sign sequels so far ahead with no proof of success was Battlefield Earth, wasn’t it? That’s not a business model I’d follow…

Its kinda standard, you just hear it more often thanks to the internet. A great example is Green Lantern, they were producing their sequel before they finished the first and you seen what happen there.

I should play J. Jonah Jameson.

Perhaps they are filming portions of both movies at the same time, thereby saving costs…?

Mr. Fishburne,
I agree. I also think you’ll be a great Perry White.

This is a little surprising, but not that much. If this movie is any good, Marvel may be wanting to cash in as much as possible, instead of having bigger gaps in between like the last three movies did. And maybe they’re hoping to ride the whole Avengers wave, and see if they can’t a little something off that too? It’d be cool to see an Avengers/Spidey flic, or something.

Sadly, there’s no chance for an Avengers/Spidey flick, since the rights are held by different studios.

This is not surprising. Sony needs to keep making Spider-Man movies every few years in order to keep the rights from going back to Marvel.

Why the Hell would it have Justin Bieber in it??!

Why is every fan saying on every site that Sony NEEDS to make a Spider-Man movie every few years so that’s why they fast tracked it?
That’s not true. Sure, Sony needs to make movies to keep the rights. But they don’t have to make them every 2 years. It’s a lot more than that. See Fantastic Four. Fox still has the rights but they didn’t make a movie in a long time.
So, the only reason they fast tracked it is either a)they are very confident in the movie and/or b)they need to make money as fast as possible.
And maybe c)Garfield is 27 yo and playing a high school student. ’nuff said lol

It is possible that the Sony contract for Spidey is a little different than the Fox contract for FF.
But this seems to be more about grabbing a summer date, regardless of whether the movie can or even should be made that quickly.

It’s Green Lantern-level hubris all over again. Does Marvel think it can get away with this just because it’s Spiderman? Stupid. I haven’t even agreed to go see the first one yet

this movie is going to be garbage
August 8th, 2011 at 11:32 pm
People keep sayin’ Marvel here like they’ve forgot Sony havethe rights to spidey.

@Kk – It’s SONY, not MARVEL. SONY controls the rights to the Spider-Man franchise. HEy, if the movie is good (filming back to back), it will work out.
There was no guarantee LOTR was going to be good/well received as ‘sword and sorcery’ type movies were not exactly lighting the screen on fire.
Having said that, this is not LOTR and I too, am pessimistic about this ‘reboot’ and wish they had just made Spidey 4 with a new cast. Gwen and the Lizard were already set up too.

Hey Laurence Fishburne 1…shut up
