Marvel has better distribution channels. When I go into an Australian comic book store I see Marvel comics, not BOOM! I’ve been ordering online to get these little numbers.

What a drag because there was at least one more book to go in this particular character development arc. It would be a nice happy world if Marvel took over the current (slightly insane) storyline and finished it. A saner new storyline would be even better, of course.

Let us all pray to Marvel comics. ‘O wise and gracious comic conglomerate, please give us more tales of derring-do from the indefatigable duck knight hero of our childhoods: Darkwing Duck!’

I can’t believe that Boom Studios is losing their Disney Comics License after they finish the Duck Tales/Darkwing Duck crossover storyline. I hope Marvel publishes them when Boom retires in a month or two.

I wish this was not true, on account that Boom Kids has been doing such a great work. Still, I hope that Marvel at least has the idea of continuing all the comic books that Boom Kids has been publishing over the last years… I mean, come on, some of the best comic book writers in the world work for Marvel, so it would be easy for them to continue the comic books, especially Darkwing Duck and DuckTales.

I’m hoping Mavel will produce Disney TaleSpin comics, considering Boom! couldn’t and it’s definitely needing a revival! It was the best Disney Afternoon series.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve don’t think the Disney comics were selling on newstands or in bookstore racks (in the magazine section) during Gemstone’s run with the license? All I saw from Gemstone were these overprices editions meant for collectors or older fans. Boom!’s run of the comic series definitely renewed interest in comic books for Darkwing Duck and The Muppets. There definitely didn’t seem to be any for either title back when Gemstone was handling the license. I’m sure a lot of folks now are wanting for Marvel to continue these since a market has already been created. Marvel also gets a lot of slightly new material for reprint and just make bank on it. I say “slightly new” since the Boom! material, that they get to use, is from 2 years old to present. Boom! Studios/Boom! Kidz/Kaboom did a lot for Disney, in terms of showing people that kids comics do sell. It seems like Boom! Studios was just an experiment to see how well Marvel could do. Let the small company do all the hard work and pave the way for the giant company to step in and spare the least expense or work. I’m worried too about Marvel doing nothing original.

I don’t understand what is taking so long for Marvel and Disney to start mining their huge character inventories for animated shows and comics. “Hulk and the Agents of Smash” is the only Marvel show announced at ComicCon. Give us some animated DVDs or some mini-series. Put the Disney characters back in comics under the Marvel banner, bound to help sales some. And where is the Phineas and Ferb comic??

BOOM! & IDW should merge, nuff said…hmmmm maybe throw Dynamite in there…I feel like small publishers are going through a Renaissance of sorts. LIke in the 90s we had Malibu, Valiant, Image…now we got strong independent publishers led by Dark Horse.

I think comics made a resurgence.

Marvel will absolutely NOT do anything with these properties except for crappy mini-series or one-shots. They will do the exact same thing they did with the Malibu characters, Cross Gen universe and Miracle Man. Practically nothing.

They don’t care about anything other than superheroes. How I miss the Marvel of the ’70s and ’80s and all their different properties and creative storytelling. The Marvel of today is equivalent to Activision where all they do is milk franchises and inundate the industry with a glut of the same old, same old. If DC’s relaunch doesn’t live up to my expectations and tell compelling stories I will be done with comics for good.

I feel like I’ve entered the Dark Age of Geekdom.

I’m disappointed. DARKWING DUCK has been the top of my read list every month. I doubt Marvel will do anything with the Disney Afternoon characters.

I don’t know if that’s true, Jason. Disney Adventures magazine had print runs of 1,000,000 when it closed shop in 2007 due to declining advertising. So the numbers are there, just not necessarily in the direct market, and obviously not in as slick a publication as Disney Adventures through normal channels…however, that was before Disney got themselves a publishing and comics arm. They’re certainly experimenting with the format with the current reprints, which could easily lead to better placement in supermarkets and WalMart, which has to be their ultimate goal. They wouldn’t have ended the license if they didn’t think they could make more money themselves…it’s as simple as that.

BOOM! loses the Disney license becuse Disney owns Marvel and Marvel wont do anything with the books becuse they don’t sell well enough. Warner Bros./DC did the same thing a few years ago with the New Line horror movie line. Avatar Press had the rights to do New Lines Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St. & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre comics and Warner Bros. owns New Line lost the license and Wildstorm did a few one-shots, mini-series and a short ongoing of the same books and then cancelled them all. The big companies need the books to sell more and the smaller companies can handle the lower selling titles. So the fans of the books will suffer.
