DC Confirms BATMAN BEYOND Comic Returning in 2012

August 3rd, 2011
Author Albert Ching

Slipped inconspicuously into a preview of Batman Beyond #8, in stores today, DC quietly confirmed on their official blog The Source that the series will be returning with a new #1 in 2012. Here’s their exact word:

BATMAN BEYOND #8 is the final issue of this run of the series. BATMAN BEYOND will return with an all-new #1 and story arc, “10,000 Clowns,” in 2012.

The fate of Batman Beyond had been unclear since DC’s announcement of the September revamp — the series was not among the “new 52″ books announced, and an issue wasn’t in the publisher’s September or October solicitations. But now it looks like Terry McGinnis fans can rest easy, though whether or not the current regular creative team of writer Adam Beechen and artist Ryan Benjamin (Chris Batista guests on art in issue #8) are returning as well is unclear at this point.

The series debuted as an ongoing in January 2011, following a six-issue miniseries in 2010, and is based on the animated series that ran from 1999 to 2002.

That’s both good news and bad news to me. It seems like the title was finally getting some legs to it, but that momentum is being shunned in favor of the line-wide relaunch…none of which will affect the Batman Beyond title.

I agree Fluffy. Both good and bad news. I am so very glad to hear that it is coming back, but really hate that the stories that have been started will probably be lost due to a reboot.

As long as this is an alternate future or another Earth, than this is great news. I just don’t want them trying to make it “THE” future of the main Earth.

I have always been a diehard fan of Batman Beyond so this is Great news for me! I hated Hush Beyond bc it was pointless, I wish the Joker would have killed Alfred. This would have better explained why Dick was so angry at Bruce. But I’ve loved issues 1-8. Purchased #8 today. At the end it says BB will return in 10,000 clowns in 2012.

I’ll get the trade of this past run. I just wasn’t overwhelmed by the writing. It was missing the punch of what made the animated series awesome. I hope for someone like Winick to get it. Also Pere Perez would do awesome art on it. He needs a regular gig

  6. Supermutant Says:

Good news bad news. Good news that confirmed what one people working on the book that would return. Bad news is that we got wait till next year for it. Seriously this dumb.

  7. Jamie Says:

Good and bad news indeed. Batman Beyond was a terrific show but the comic felt like a hollow echo of it’s former self imo. Maybe this time they’ll kick it up a bit more!

  8. @The_Nicktator Says:

Rather than start with issue another #1, they should wait eight months, then come out with issue #9 with the rest of the #9′s.

Get with the program DC. How many years of floppy comic distribution do you have left??? Milk it while you can… Eventually you will have a cut off point, or Diamond’s cut off point. Diamond is F#@#@%@% you in the @$$. In the mean time I will educate new collectors on how not to purchase comics. I’ll wait for an Absolute Edition. Advice: Stick to collected editions, or just go F%$# yourselves cause we ain’t buying them.

Looks like they turned Red Robin in to Batman Beyond (IMO) for the reboot, might as well go all the way.

great news but the wait is gonna be long

Fantastic news. I have really been enjoying this series and I really think it’s getting better and better with every issue. I have come to like Beechen’s writing as well as Benjamin’s drawing though the guest artists usually do a much better job. I don’t like the idea of having a 3rd #1 but oh well, as long as we can continue experiencing the world of neo-gotham and the adventures of Terry McGinnis, I’m happy.

  13. Jackson Says:

yaay yaaaay! I’m pumped i got a cool idea for a Beyond story where Tery gets old and becomes bruce caracter and then his son becoms batman again but then it ends up bein a Ace flashback in his head caus he was dremin. OH! and if joker comes back they should make him super duper old and have a weelchair and bruce can push him down the steps!
